What an amazing experience! Nathalie & Mathijs are lovely and generous people running a finca that looks like a true garden of Eden! The energy is so peaceful and tranquil.
I stayed in the cave and loved it there. Despite the bad weather it stayed warm and I had a lot of privacy which I enjoyed. The nearby communal area has everything you need:
… read more electricity, fully functional kitchen, washing machine and even warm showers! It’s more lika glamping than an off-grid living!
The work was enjoyable and the exchange is fair, we worked weekdays between 9 and 1, mostly doing gardening, weeding, cleaning and general maintenance. In exchange we got delicious lunch prepared with organic ingredients from the garden.
What I enjoyed most was the chats we had and how openly Nathalie and Matija shared their experiences of building this stunning place - this will be truly valuable for my future projects!
I highly recommend this project 💕

For me, it has been a long time since I was able to volunteer in this way and it was the first time that I did this alone (leaving my family at home). Exciting but I really enjoyed it here more than expected! The work, you, meeting your friends and neighbors, Lupa and Ollou, the cats and chickens, the beautiful weather and view (sea view), all the stars that I could admire at night, the surroundings.
I felt very welcome and it is great to notice that you can just be who you are. I will take this valuable experience home with me (I seriously shed a few tears when I said goodbye to you) and will always keep it in my heart. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you again in the future. And I wish you both all the best.

I spent almost 3 weeks in July at Nathalie and Mathijs wonderful place and I had a great time. Their home and the area are very beautiful and close to nature, great to relax and enjoy some quiet time away from city life. I could spend time with a lot of cats, the dogs, all the lizards and geckos, the chicken or watch the goats on the next hill
… read more behind the barranco. Nathalie and Mathijs are super welcoming hosts who really involved me in their life. The work was fun and easy, also well explained. I watered the garden, planted and harvested, fed the chicken and cleaned the coop, helped with the building of a natural stone wall, sewed some sheets or cleaned the kitchen.
Nathalie and Mathijs are both good at cooking, the food they provided was always healthy and yummy, often even with ingredients from their own garden and they were considerate that I live vegan. Sometimes I even got to try a fruit I didn't know before. The conversations with them were really interesting and I gained some new perspectives.
I got to sleep in a natural cave and absolutely loved it. It always has the perfect temperature. But there is also a campervan on the huge property, which they offered me for my sleeping quater (so I could choose when I arrived).
I got along well with the other Workawayer that stayed at their place at the same time (hello Torve!), so sometimes we went to a beach together. The people on the island are friendly, it was easy to hitchhike to the closest beaches or small town. For longer distances I always took the buses, which also works well.
Thanks a lot Nathalie and Mathijs for this great time! I hope to visit you again someday and see how all of your projects have developed :)

I have been able to enjoy the cultural environment of that beautiful area of the Isla de la Palma and I have felt part of the community, being able to be proactive on a daily basis. I spend almost two months at this lovely finca of Mathijs and Nathalie (doing several hikes in between). Probably you don't need any more positive reviews, still I want to mention a few things.

The finca itself is beautifully laid out at the edge of a spectacular barranco, giving the impression that you are at the end of the world, but truely a Part of Nature.
It's simply amazing what Mathijs has created on this land in just a bit over 3 years. Nathalie works as teacher in a free school on most of the days, so you will usually help with Mathijs.
Speaking of help: it's mostly hardcore garderning ("moving Mountains"), so prepare to get dirty and enjoy the free fitness. Despite it being hard, Mathijs made sure the tasks were always varied, well structured and patiently explained. Personally, I absolutely enjoyed the rewarding tasks and would always do it again. Also it was super nice to see the many good ideas that Mathijs realized on his land (e.g. Worm farms and an aquaponic herb-spiral).
There are litterally all the tools to build a full house, so any project you want to realize: the equipment is mostly likely to be there.
The free lunch is amazing: homemade bread and a super diverse and nutrious salad that comes with cheese, Avocado, eggs etc.
All in all, the two made sure that I really enjoyed my stay, which I did, thank you so much for having me 🙏🏼

A late review here! We (me and my friend Nico) had a truly wonderful week staying with Nathalie and Mathijs in May 2021. Their finca is amazing, beautifully situated, peaceful (but windy) and full of plants, herbs, fruits and veggies! Our hosts were more than great - friendly, helpful and understanding! Work wasn't too demanding or hard - it differed and was well adjusted to our bodies, energy and the weather conditions.
We had time for ourselves but also we spend some great time together - joining Nathalie and Mathijas on a trip to the city, to the ocean or forests of La Palma. We also had a chance to join Nathalie and try contact improvisation dance which was unforgettable experience.

Since I travel by bicycle my request to Nathalie and Mathijs was quite last minute. Hurray! I was welcome to stay for 2 weeks on their finca so I cycled that way! It was all I hoped for. Nathalie and Mathijs make you easily feel home. Their lovely dog Lupa encloses you in the group from the moment you arrive, giving cuddles and guarding in front of your little house ;)
A lot is possible at this place as long as you communicate. Nathalie even invited me to come with her to a workshop of weaving with leaves. Hope to finish the sombrero one day.. ;)

Then there is a third member of the family: Lupa, the most sweet dog you can imagine, many times being company while working and relaxing.
All in all, this place is an inspiring place with so many wonders to explore in the garden and surroundings; lots of tropical fruits, trees, plants and a beautiful view that never gets boring. I surely want to come back for a longer stay.

We had some nice evenings around the campfire with Djen&Sabrina singing songs... very heartwarming :)
Djen also made us a kind of robot to cool our solarsystem batteries when in the summer it would get too warm. And this he was doing in his free time.
We were really happy with their stay and we would be very happy to welcome them again here at the place.

We spend an amazing month at this place with Nathalie and Mathijs. The place is a green paradise in a nice climate with a huge variety of plants, flowers and trees. The views into the barranco and to the sea are fantastic and the night sky is breathtaking. They also have the shower and toilet with the best views ever! ;)

… read more made sure our tasks were always varied and interesting. It was great to learn about all the projects he's working on, helping with some of them and seeing the progress we achieved together.
We usually had lunch and dinner together and meals were always delicious, harmonic and we had interesting conversations with a lot of laughing in the evenings. The cave kitchen is a unique place, beautifully decorated and well equipped.
We stayed in the camper van, since the cave was already occupied. The van is cozy and has great sunset views.
All in all it's a simple life, but it's a magical place and Nathalie and Mathijs are very welcoming. They really treated us like friends.
In our free time we enjoyed hiking in the surrounding, going on little trips, or just chilling in the sun, cuddling the dog/cats, or watching lizards. Nathalie and Mathijs gave us a lot of good recommendations for the area to explore.
We would love to come back in a few years to see how all the projects have progressed.
