    Description

    Hello!

Thank you for reading our profile. Guy, myself and our dog Ava would love to welcome you to our home and community up here in Far North Queensland. A place like no other.

At the northern edge of the Daintree rainforest, adjacent to the pristine waters of Wallaby Creek (safe for swimming) and surrounded by excellent bush walks, visitors can enjoy numerous activities. Located only a few kilometres north is the Lions Den Hotel, which features live bands during the tourist season and offers a unique experience. The southern route through the Daintree to Port Douglas showcases breathtaking coastal scenery. We invite you to join us on your days off to explore our hills and discover many amazing places that are typically known only to locals.

In December 2023, our region experienced significant flooding, marking the largest regional flood in recorded history. Many homes, possessions, and lands were lost as waters reached up to 14 meters high. Despite over a year passing since the event, the population remains in recovery and shock; however, the camaraderie and support within the community have been heart-warming.

Our home, fortunately situated on a hill, remained unscathed. As a close-knit community, we are committed to assisting each other, resulting in continuous efforts to rebuild and support one another.

Both Guy and I actively volunteer within our local community. We participate in organising and attending our local markets, Landcare, and the Wallaby Creek Festival. Additionally, we are members of the Rural Fire Brigade, and I serve as the Volunteer Coordinator for Wallaby Creek Festival and President of the Rossville & District Citizens Association. Being integral members of the local community is essential to us, and we encourage our visitors to join us in our volunteer endeavours as part of their community experience.

We purchased our home in June 2023, located on over an acre of land and surrounded by national forest with stunning hill views. Described as a 'Renovator's Delight,' our property presents numerous project opportunities. We have already installed a new roof and guttering, added a water tank, transitioned to off-grid living with a standalone solar system, and planted over 200 native trees, as well as created food and flower gardens from bare land. Last year, with substantial assistance, we established these gardens, built a shade house, created an outdoor laundry, and began dismantling the closed-in back veranda.

My background lies in wellness, including nursing, health coaching, hypnosis, meditation, and bodywork, while Guy is a knowledgeable horticulturist. Our focus is on fostering a better world characterized by community and connection.
We are passionate about Biodynamic and Regenerative Agricultural practices, having planted a syntropic food forest last year to restore land balance. While our land cannot yet be classified as 'Organic' due to our recent arrival, we adhere to principles of Biodynamics and Regenerative agriculture in caring for it.

In exchange for 5 hours of help per day, 5 days per week, we offer to share our knowledge and practices. We provide three meals a day and various accommodation options, including camping space with power and running water or a bedroom with a double bed. Additionally, we have a comfortable camp bed available if you prefer not to share a bed. Though our house is basic, it is comfortable and an ongoing project.
