    Description

    Welcome nature lovers!
Small is beautiful! This is a small-scale project, very personal, non-profit, and in the woods.

***version française sur demande, avec plaisir***

I lived many years in this off-grid cabin (without running water or electricity), near a nice stream. Now I'm building a new house intended to be a friendly place of silence and meditation nearby. Unfortunately I've been neglecting the cabin and can hardly find the time to care for the cabin. I think it's a terrific place to reconnect with yourself and simple life, and deserves to be kept in good shape. Basically it needs cleaning and painting (old wooden windows). Then some more substantial work I would do myself on the "basement", but could use a helping hand to pass me material.

It's perfect for a very self-sufficient individual - or a couple. I love to share a meal and life experiences once in a while but most of the time you would be by yourself. You don't have to work many hours but really need to be quite meticulous, both for the painting and daily procedures (e.g. keep countertop dry... how to heat the woodstove...that sort of things)

You can use facilities at the new building. If you prefer, and depending on the timing we could switch (you could stay and work at the new house).

Living in the woods here is quite special, in the good sense for those who like it - much about simplicity and self-sustainability. Then, if you're interested in mindfulness, any work is an opportunity to learn and practice! If you like we can sit together daily... And of course if you want to "learn" meditation I'm happy to share my modest experience.

Mostly painting. You can also help in the garden if you like.
I'll also be looking for someone to just keep the dog, at different times this summer. For this I would be more flexible on the minimum stay.

I also speak some Spanish, Rumanian and Mandarin Chinese (it seems the site won't save them...) I won't have much time to dedicate to learning but I like to play around with languages. You will definitely be in a French environment here, and I can speak slowly and be patient if you're willing to learn.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Basic conditions at the cabin: outdoor toilets, a solar panel and a spring nearby. There's a basic camping-like shower inside. Depending on your provider you might have cellphone network or not.
At the new building about 150m uphill there's electricity and running water and wifi and a washing machine and shower.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is a nice walk along the stream and cascades close by, and I can drive you to a more substantial hike 8 km away. Then there are more hiking trails about 20 km away. Besides not many leisure activity:) Public transportation is limited but exists (TCA Montmagny). You can use a bicycle, it's quite hilly around here but TCA can take you with the bike to Montmagny where you can enjoy St-Lawrence river (when ferry schedule allows you can go to isle-aux-grues)

I should be able to pick you up in Montmagny or Levis for your arrival and drive you there when you leave. If you're interested I'll send you info on how to get there.

More about me: I practice mindfulness/buddhist/zen meditation. I'm very down-to-earth, more inspired by nature and science than religious rituals, although I enjoy discussing religions, philo and psychology as well. I'm not vegetarian but we would do the shopping together and buy what you like anyway - I'm paying of course, as long as it's in a reasonable range:) I don't provide alcohol. IMPORTANT: I don't drink alcohol or do other intoxicants and I'm not comfortable with much substance abuse at my place ( VERY moderate use ok). Please do respect this and simply not apply if you're a daily alcohol or drug user.
