I shared almost two weeks with Virginie at Cadouin during a very busy period of her work. I was happy to be there as I was independent with my own car and I was also eager to discover the beauty the region of Dordogne has.
Virginie was super flexible and asked few hours of work in return for the exchange, which I appreciated a lot. The tasks
… read more were renovating rooms of a new home, where we would drive daily from the temporal place where she is staying in the mountains (just a 10 minute drive). If you are lucky to be able to do this, don’t hesitate.
Virginie is kind, open-minded, curious, talkative and generous with her time. Although she worked long hours we spent a lot of time together over meals and some walks with both our dogs in the beautiful paths nearby. She loves food and nature which we have in common! :)
I wish her nothing but success in a very special property she’s investing time and effort in, and hope to return someday!

She was extremely patient with my basic level of French and I was able to improve a lot practising English with her! As I didn't have much work at the time, I helped out around the house and we focussed on conversation! I was able to have time to myself to paint

We exchanged a lot of experiences and great laughs! She's a really special person, polite, funny and lovely to have around! Sartre is also a lovely dog and great company!
I'll never forget the memorable moments I was able to enjoy, the great French recipes she made sure to cook with a lot of love and dedication and the amazing places I got to know! I hope to see you again soon!

The five days I spent with Virginie were pure pleasure. She is a generous host, who planned each aspect of my stay thoughtfully. Every meal she made me was delicious. Every walk we took with Sartre, her dog, was beautiful - since we both appreciate nature, she found a range of routes in forests, local parks and green spaces.

… read more that I'm interested in travelling more widely in France and kindly took me to the coast for the day, visiting some pretty villages. Another day we took a self-guided walking tour of Lille, which was so interesting. I was fortunate that the dates of my stay coincided with a quieter period in her work, as she can't always spend so much time with her guests.
On the subject of work, it was amazing to watch Virginie at her porcelaine painting and to share in the experience by making a small creation of my own (with lots of help!). Again, an example of her generosity.
Finally, knowing that I love to speak French and engage with French people, Virginie arranged for me to meet and spend time with her close friend and neighbour. This was a real pleasure, for the three of us to share meals and trips together.
Virginie asked for very little from me in return. Our opportunities to speak English were a little limited, as she finds it a struggle to be sure of her words. I think we enjoyed our conversations in French so much, it was hard to remember that I was supposed to be there to help her practice English! In any event, it was a friendship that felt easy and natural and I hope we'll stay in touch.
