Hi there! I’m Alice, a sunny, dynamic and open-minded volunteer ready to help and learn along the way 😊

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved stories. She spent all her free time writing and creating adventures with her friends, exploring the world through imagination and play. As the years went by, she grew up, got a passport and started off on real adventures!

As a professional reporter, I love stories. Listening to them, writing them, sharing them. Last year, I decided to take a sabbatical to create meaningful stories and learn new things. That was one of the best decisions in my life! 😊

Thanks to Workaway, I learned a lot about gardening, permaculture (and life) with Stephen in Ireland, Astrid in Norway, and Chalotte in Denmark 🌱 In Louisburg, Pat and Jim introduced me to the Irish lambing season and taught me how to take care of sheep 🐑 In the crowded streets of Oslo, along the hiking trails of the Lofoten Islands, in a small pub in Waterford, I shared amazing moments with other volunteers and locals.

Every new encounter is a new story that begins, an opportunity for me to learn and connect with other people for a few minutes, hours or days, creating shared memories that will last for years.

And because we never stop learning (and growing!), I'm still looking for new adventures! 🌍
Whatever the project is, I'm happy to be part of the adventure and I'm ready to write the next stories with you.

I like spending time singing and playing guitar, writing fiction over hot chocolates (it's very important to be inspired) or just sharing stories and memories with people. I also love hiking and stargazing (even if I don't know the constellations very well yet... but I'm very interested in learning!).

Besides film and photography, I also enjoy baking (watch out for the incredible chocolate goods!) and sharing a good meal with others . But what I really love is helping people and making them smile.

And of course, I enjoy traveling. I've already explored Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Nepal, southern Portugal, Slovenia, a few European cities (Amsterdam, Prague, London, Milan, Vienna, Paris, Porto) and a few American cities (New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco).

We only had Alice with us for a week and during that short time she was very helpful with many projects we are working on. Cutting willow, Painting walls, chopping timber, panelling a wall, using power tools was no problem, she was super to organise in the kitchen and Polly tunnel. Oh not to forget her amazing brownies.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Help around our home and ...)

My stay at Grainne and Tony’s home was my first workaway and I couldn’t have dreamed of a better way to start this whole experience. Workaway is for me an incredible opportunity to meet and connect with people, to share stories and create memories while learning from each other. Tony and Grainne are such sociable, generous and kind people, I’m so… read more lucky to have met them. 🥰

From the very first video call to the last goodbye hug at the airport, Grainne and Tony (and Molly 🐶) have welcomed me in their family with arms (and paws) wide open. I stayed with them for 1 week in November and enjoyed helping them to clear the attic (“work” is not the right word because it felt like so much fun!). We dived through history and time while sorting every letter, photograph, cloth and boxes we found up there. I remember reading a register from the 1920's!

After sorting all the items, we also kinda played “Giant Tetris”, stocking all the boxes in closets, and “Grown-up Lego”, building Ikea furniture (regular Lego are also for grown-ups, don’t get me wrong! 😂). Cleaning that attic with Grainne was such a lively adventure, our energetic duo were so effective that we cleared the whole thing in 2 or 3 days! And I think Tony and I beated the record on “how fast you can build an Ikea wardrobe” 👀.

We also had good times in the kitchen where Tony taught me how to make an Irish beef stew with Guinness (I call him Chef Tony from now on 🧑‍🍳) and I shared and baked my brownies recipe. Totally healthy snacks according to the sign in the kitchen stating “Simple botany: chocolate comes from cocoa, which is a plant, therefore chocolate is a fruit”. 😁

I had the pleasure to share wonderful and inspiring chats about pretty much every topic that came to mind (how to find the best way to communicate with different people, how travels open up your mind, culture differences, family, music, cinema…), and Tony and Grainne made sure that I discovered some of the best spots in Dublin (go grab a pint in “The Hole in the Wall”, where everyday is Christmas! 🎄)

Thank you so much for welcoming me into your life for a few days and sharing all these moments together, I will cherish them for a long time 🩵 (and dear Molly, I’m not forgetting you and our refreshing walks! 🐶).

PS: Sorry for the late feedback, I got caught up with Christmas and New Year celebrations! Big hugs from France🤗
