I am passionate about empowerment, community development, and personal growth. My friends and family motivate me and bring me happiness in my day to day life and I enjoy spending time with them doing activities such as sports, music, and spending time outdoors. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and am always looking for new experiences to build deep connections with people, immerse myself in different cultures, and share skills and knowledge with others. I am also motivated by my studies of geography and my future aspiration to work in a non-profit organization, which have fueled my desire to explore the world and inspired me to help create positive change in whatever ways I can.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am a tennis player but I love sports in general, and I have experience in assisting in coaching of tennis and swimming, as well as volunteering as a lifeguard. I also have experience with children from last summer when I volunteered with a project in El Salvador called Music for Hope for close to three months, spending time practising music and leading sports-related games, as well as assisting the psychologist in preparing and explaining mental health related activities to the children. Other experiences that I have of working with people from different backgrounds include voluntary work that I did at my local park run, where I supported people of different ages, with different needs and diverse abilities; and some jobs that I have taken on while studying at university, specifically my wellness ambassador role, through which I completed a suicide prevention educational module, my role as an orientation leader welcoming freshmen to the campus, and my job as a library student assistant. After completing sixth-form college in England where I studied psychology, geography, and Spanish, I am now on a scholarship in the US completing my undergraduate degree in Global Affairs and Spanish. I also take other classes that interest me such as sociology, anthropology, and linguistics, and I am interested to get a broader knowledge and learn from other people. I am trying to gain more experience - due to my age and full-time student status, I do not have that much experience yet, but I am trying to find more opportunities and I am willing to try new things.

Was noch ...

I grew up in Manchester in England, but I also love to be in the countryside. My dad is from Sri Lanka, so through visiting my family during my childhood, and through trips to other countries such as Senegal, where I competed in two international tennis competitions, I have become used to adapting to the climate and I love the heat. I have traveled to some countries in Europe with my family but I am now starting solo traveling and as I am studying Spanish, I am eager to embrace cultures of South and Central America. Traveling to El Salvador last summer was my first experience of traveling independently and I embraced the community spirit, getting to know local people who I met and going to different community events. I am also grateful to have stayed with a lovely host family, who I have maintained a close connection with. I am excited to get to know more new people through traveling! Some other hobbies that I have not mentioned are hiking and photography.
