I'm an easy-going young adult with plenty of intrestes. So far I've been mainly focusing on my studies (humanities), now I'm looking to have some radically different experience, maybe a bit more practical/phisical and nature-bound. This place seems like the right way to do so. I'd love to get new languages and to meet a lot of new and intresting people coming from different places and cultures. Hopefully I'll be able to share some of my knowledge and be usefull to somebody as well.

I'm a native italian speaker, fluent and confortable with english. At the moment I'm looking forward to improve my french, currently I do undestand it pretty well, but i'm bit clumsy when it comes to speaking and a mess when writing. I've have some basic knowledge of artistic techuiques and cooking. I'm autonomous with chores and looking after a house. I do have a EU license. I do like to get my hands moving and learning DYI. I'm looking forward to get new skills, especially in the garden and getting new cooking skills

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join me on my journey to ...)

Since I had free time in June I planned to try with my first Workaway experience. I was looking for someplace in France to learn the language and a friend of mine, who stayed at Marcelo's last year, suggested me his place. She described the house as dynamic and always full of intresting people and It seemed like the ideal spot for what I was… read more lokking for.
I ended up at Marcelo's on the 8th of June, planning to stay there until the 4th of July but I left as soon as the 20th of June beacause I wasn't having a good time down there. I thoght for quiet sometimes about if it was worth or not to write a feedback and what to say in it. If I chose to it's precisly to avoid other people from havinge the same experience I had.
Let's begin with the fact that I was there alone with Marcelo and it was a tough start for me because I imegined that I would have been immersed in a social and vibrant environment. But that's not completely Marcelo's fault, even if on the profile it says more than 2 workawayers at a time, I was unliky enough to be there in a time when nobody else was. Nevertheless RULES HAVE RECENTLY CHANGED changed at the house, right now ONLY ONE WORKAWAYER is hosted at a time at the place. Even if I didn't planned to have a solitary experience things could have still tourned out well except that my relation with Marcelo was not the best. He wasn't really talking a lot and in more than one occasion he had been quiet frankly rude to me. Sometimes when I tried to help or to have conversations he answered me very impolitely, acting as if my presence in the house was more of a bother than a plesure for him. At
#redacted text#As soon as the first day I was there he wasn't afraid about telling me that he didn't need me there and that he goes along vey well all alone in the house. We ended up arguing a couple of times, he apoligized afterwards but eventually he didn't really changed his general attitude. #redacted# At times he came to openly criticise my life choises, as if he had the right to do it.
Marcelo had always granted me material goods, as water, food, shower and other practical things, so I've nothing to say about it. But in terms of human experience I had a terrible time there. The house per se was fine, the field and the vegetable garden, however, lay in pretty bad conditions: most of it is covered in weeds, pulling them up was what I did for most of the time there, lukely I enjoyed it very much: an hard work but rewording one (keep it mind if you are someone who gets easily bored).
Before I got there he sent me a long message about his vision of the project, talking a about justice and sharing, but the reality of things down there was pretty far form that. I must say I've learned a lot at Marcelo's place, but not for his sake, or in any case, not in a positive way. I am still wondering why if he considers workawayers to be so detestables people he keeps hosting them.
Overall I would definitely not reccomend going there, more so on your own, at least if you wish to have a pleasing experience. Also keep in mind that he place is far from any town and the only way to move from the house is biking, but bikes there are in a terrible state: after a small trip in Lautrec a tyre exploded and it was the end of my autonoumy. If you are lucky enough to be there in a time when the house is crowded things might turn out well for you, but don't take it for granted.
If you choose to go anuway I wish you luck, maybe you won't go trough what I went through.
