***DATES NOW PROVISIONALLY FILLED**
(LOOKING FOR A FERRET SITTER 20th July to 8th AUGUST (only)
We're looking for feisty ferret lovers with previous experience of ferrets or a similar unusual pet/ farm animals to look after our rescue ferret Crash whilst we are on holiday between appro. We'd love to welcome you and settle you into our routine before we go!
DESCRIPTION:
Are you an experienced animal enthusiast, not bothered by smells and animal poop (ferrets are stinky!) confident handling small animals and have you had previous experience with ferrets or similar? Are you also looking to spend up to two weeks exploring the beautiful city of Edinburgh? This could work for you!
PLEASE KNOW THAT:
***Ferrets are higher maintenance than cat sitting, so please read and consider carefully before messaging us! *** This really needs someone who is crazy about all animals big and small, doesn't mind smell or animal poop, and doesn't mind sharing their space with small creatures and has some previous experience.
Jobs Needed Each Day (approx 3-4 hours a day e.g: 8am-9.30am and 7pm-8.30pm):
-Litter tray cleaning,
- feeding and cage cleaning
-poop scooping!
-Short lead walks in quiet streets by our home
-Supervised free play in the house morning and evening
About our Ferret:
Crash is a 5 year old rescue ferret, who is used to being picked up and handled, but can be a little bit shy with new people. His more confident brother recently died so he is learning to live alone and building up his confidence. Ferrets are very curious and love playing in tunnels and boxes and hiding around the house, trying to get into all the rooms they are barred from! He loves to get into everything (especially closed doors), and be taken around the neighbourhood for walks on a lead. Morning and evening are play time and as he is now on his own he needs someone patient and willing to interact with him!
The plus side is that he will sleep all day in his cage leaving you free to go out and about! and explore the city.
A Few things to consider:
* Ferrets are quite smelly!
*Ferrets are litter box trained but they sometimes forget this if excited!
*Our ferret lives in the house, so not ideal for anyone with allergies
* Crash is used to children but should not be left unsupervised with kids; though gentle, Ferrets can bite playfully if over excited!
Once your ferrety admin is done for the morning you will be free to explore our lovely city as they sleep all day. You just need to be able to come home to let him out again early evening for another play session. Then you can head out again to enjoy Edinburgh nightlife!
About Us:
We are a small family and live in a tiny upper cottage (known here as a "Colony Flat" ) in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. We do everything we can in our work and home lives to help Edinburgh become a sustainable low carbon city. We travel by bike, eat local and veggie, use reclaimed materials for mostly everything and volunteer to protect the planet.
Our family works by day in a range of non profits across the city. Ellie works for an active travel charity and as a landscape and tree protection officer, whilst Simon works on a natural building projects and the rest of the time as a woodworker with a local school.
We have a passion for travel, the outdoors, cycling and sustainable living, and love veggie and vegan food (except Sula who loves Pepperoni and fish fingers so not a 100 percent vegetarian household). We enjoy good company and the chance to swap skills and ideas. We welcome volunteers who bring energy, a sense of humour and who really want to make a difference, and are willing to be flexible to help us!Types of help and learning opportunities
