    🌊 About Our Project
This is a community-based conservation project we have been doing for over 6 years. It began out of deep concern for the destruction of coral reefs caused by harmful fishing practices such as blast fishing, chemical use, and non-sustainable nets.

With a strong desire to make a change, we started learning from online sources—Google and YouTube—about how to restore coral reefs. We began the project with our own savings, time, and energy, despite having very limited diving equipment. Through hard work and daily efforts, we’re proud to see the coral growing well and marine life returning to the areas we rehabilitated.

Currently, we manage four coral reef conservation sites on Lembata Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. We have also started environmental education programs in two coastal villages, where children learn about marine life and the importance of coral reefs.

Classes are held three times a week, combining theory sessions on the beach and practical coral planting activities with the children and volunteers.

🤝 Cultural Exchange & Learning Experience
As a Workawayer, you’ll be fully immersed in local life. You will:

Live among and interact with the local community

Explore our island’s culture, nature, and daily village activities

Join coral planting, beach clean-ups, and educational classes with children

Share stories and experiences with our friendly local team

Learn about reef restoration and community-based environmental work

We also love learning from our guests—whether it’s your language, cooking styles, teaching methods, or new ideas to improve our project.

👥 Local Team & Volunteer Roles
We currently work with 6 dedicated local volunteers who help run the daily activities. They are kind, open-minded, and always excited to learn and support others. We also receive help from a few local staff in daily operations and maintenance.

We are always in need of more helping hands, especially in:

    Teaching children

    Assisting coral planting and monitoring

Sharing new skills and knowledge with the local team

    🛌 Accommodation
We provide private bedrooms for volunteers with clean beds and access to a shared bathroom.

    ⚠️ Challenges & Future Dreams
Some of the challenges we face:

Limited swimming and diving equipment (goggles, fins, etc.)

Not enough teaching staff for our environmental classes

We need more hands to help with coral restoration

Our big dream is to expand the coral conservation area, and one day establish a marine learning center and gallery for children and the wider community here in Lembata.

Experience Coral Reef Restoration and Island Life with Local Communities

Join us in our coral reef restoration project on a beautiful island in Indonesia. As a volunteer, you’ll take part in meaningful environmental work and also connect with local communities in a unique and rewarding way.

    🌊 Coral Planting Activities
Volunteers help with coral reef planting up to 4 times a week. Each planting session lasts a maximum of 4 hours per day and depends on weather and sea conditions. The schedule is flexible and adjusted to nature.

    📚 Community Engagement
Before reef activities, you can also join informal learning sessions with local beach children — helping them with basic English, games, or storytelling. It’s a wonderful cultural exchange opportunity.

    🏖️ Free Time and Exploration
Volunteers have free time on Saturdays and Sundays. You’re welcome to explore the island — hike to active volcanoes, dive in crystal-clear waters, watch whales, or visit nearby villages. Local volunteers can guide or accompany you, or you can explore on your own.

    🛏️ Accommodation
We provide two accommodation options: one in the middle of a local village, and one by the beach. Each volunteer has a private bedroom and private bathroom (with shower and Western toilet). You can choose the setting that best suits your comfort.

    🍽️ Meals and Lifestyle
We do our best to share local meals and island life with volunteers. We welcome those who are independent, open-minded, and ready to live simply in harmony with nature.

    🤝 Our Philosophy
This is a non-profit, community-based initiative. We don’t expect payment — just your time, effort, and positive energy to help protect our environment and support our local communities.
