Staying here is a gift. The whole month that my boyfriend and I spent at Jake & Melissa's farm was perfect. The property is magnificent and so peaceful that we barely left it. We also had our own private cabin which had everything we needed.
Working together with Jake is the best. He's knowledgable, super patient, and encouraged me to try new
… read more things all the time without any pressure. I learned so much there! The "work" was never boring; no two days were alike. We went out to the sheep and cow islands, the craziness of which I adored.
Melissa, Jake and the kids also went on holidays during our stay and trusted us with taking care of their farm and animals, which we really appreciated.
All of them are awesome, humorous and warm-hearted people, and I recommend this workaway to anyone who wants to learn new skills in a gorgeous farm setting and with lovely people around.

We spent three wonderful week at Jake and Melissa‘s place. Jake is really patient and understanding about the things you want to do and learn, and the tasks are always interesting. Melissa is joyful and equally eager to share her pottery skills.
We knew we enjoyed outside life but weren’t particularly skillful in building and farm life when we
… read more arrived, and 3 weeks later we were able to achieve things we didn’t even imagine in the first place !
We got to build, boat, sauna, chainsaw, see the sheeps on the island, garden, cook, develop our pottery skills, all of this in a friendly and understanding atmosphere. Jake lets you organise your days as you see fit, depending on the energy you can provide to different things. After the day of work, we would often have a bonfire and marshmallows :D.
During those three weeks, we had a great sense of accomplishment, and shared a good amount of time with the family. We highly recommended this place for anyone desire to learn new skills and share their own !
All of this takes place in Nova Scotia, a really beautiful province with a unique ocean coast and habited islands.

huh where should I start... Jake and Melissa are just amazing people, as well as their kids and Flint! They are chill but also work hard. Gardening, woodwork, baking, boatrip, sauna, swimming in a freezing cold lake, board game night... so many memories we created in less than two weeks that I will forever cherish. I'm so grateful about that and to call them my friends. We felt good, we felt like a better version of ourselves, and we were happy and proud to help these wonderful people manage their dreamland. Going out of my comfort zone, I found myself immersed in a world of growth and discovery. Each day Jake ,Melissa and the kids made sure I had new lessons, new adventures ,new reasons to smile , and new moments of pure joy,they were always making sure I had a great time .
Our shared passion for the work created a supportive environment where we could all vibe together😎 . We created a “DREAM TEAM”,were we tackled big and small task while laughing until our stomachs hurt,singing and telling stories ,we made a beautiful connection with each other.
The farm itself was a little taste of heaven its pure beauty and serenity. Surrounded by nature,animals and lovely people, I found peace in the simplicity of life. The daily singing ,dancing and laughing became part of my routine and would love to keep it that way in my life .
Your warmth hearts , endless energy, and infectious humor was beautiful, it made this experience truly special and unique ,I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the unforgettable experience you guuuys gave me .
Leaving this place was hard because all those beautiful moments were becoming a memory , but I’m grateful because I am filled with memories I'll forever hold close.Thank you, from the bottom of my heart ❤️

I loved woodworking, and building the extension of the barn with Jack, it brought me so much joy and satisfaction. Jack is a very patient and calm teacher with a lot of skills and knowledge to share. He is very flexible and listener about the tasks to be carried out and he really trusted me. I really enjoyed our spiritual and philosophical exchanges while we were working.
I also had the luck to spent time with Melissa and learn more about her passion for pottery. She is an incredible artist !
With their two children, smart and open to the world, they form a loving family who embody the values of life that drive them.
I had the opportunity to discover the surrounding area, which is magnificent!
And I will always remember the sauna before I left, magical and timeless.
We had a lot of exchanges about their life journey and experiences which inspire me so much and give me confidence for the future.
They planted a lot of seed about my projects of community living, resilience and self-sufficiency and I am really grateful for that.
They are incredible people, and you've got a lot to gain by meeting them!

I just spent two wonderful weeks with Jake and Melissa! They both were so kind, friendly and open and immediately made me feel like part of their little family. The whole community did, honestly. Their kids are easy to get along with and super creative. The work was fair and (for me) ranged from daily farm chores, like feeding the chickens and
… read more pigs, to odd jobs, like helping with a hay delivery or with installing solar panels. Jake and Melissa were very open to accommodate my preferences when it comes to the type of work I like and they also included me in their after-work activities. I spent most of my time working with Jake, who is an amazingly skillful and knowledgeable, very patient teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed myself while working and I definitely learned a lot!
In my time off I was able to work on my car to make it ready to camp in it and both Jake and Melissa even helped me with that, with both tools and lots of advice, as well as a helping hand when I needed it.
The accommodation in the little cabin is very private and cozy, I loved it! It is off-grid living though, so a shower was usually replaced by a dip in the pond and you might want to bring a headlamp for the trip to the outhouse. As long as you’re comfortable with that though, you will absolutely love it here! I for sure did and I can only recommend Jake and Melissa as hosts!
