    Description

Learn sustainability and help supply fresh food to food banks!

I am a homesteader and an herbalist. After 35 years of urban homesteading in Florida, I've moved to NC to expand my work. I'm an author and an advocate for peaceful sustainable living. The goal of this space is to give 30-40% of what we grow to food banks. We are growing a lot!

We are on 5 acres in NC, about an hour eastish from Asheville. We have over 40 fruit trees, a large garden, chickens, and a solar charging station for the electric equipment. There is a 26' Geodesic dome greenhouse that also houses aquaponics. We have herb gardens, gourd tunnels, grapes and more.

For now, the focus is on growing food, and building more guest quarters in the large, detached garage. I'm looking for people with building, irrigation, and gardening skills. Willing beginners are welcome.

This is a rural property. I can pick you up at the Asheville airport or a bus/train station. I have a couple of bikes, but there is very little to do within a bike ride from here. There's a pool, a meditation/yoga greenhouse, a gazebo with a swinging bed and we're about 20 minutes drive from Lake Lure, and ten minutes from our small local town. I will be starting classes in the fall.

You'll be sharing this piece of paradise with me, Thor and Flora (dogs) , Simba (cat), Bazinga, and Pokey (cockatiels). , twelve hens, and a rooster.

VERY IMPORTANT: I am a chemical-free space. That means NO perfumes, colognes, or personal products that contain chemicals. If you aren't sure, please don't use it. Clothes that have been washed in detergents like Tide, gain, or anything that still smells like the laundry soap you used will trigger my sinuses to be unhappy. EWG.org is a great place to look for the toxicity of your products. You'll be happier and healthier if you are chemical-free! Also, no smokers.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Whether you're looking for a broad understanding of homesteading and sustainability or a deep dive into any of the segments of what I do, I can teach you what you need to know.

If you're seeking personal healing on any level, this place has that. There is birdsong, and the smell of the cypress trees is amazing. I can help create a personal wellness program for you, including herbs, and homeopathy. foods and yoga. This property has a healing vibe; you'll leave here stronger and more centered than when you came.

    Help

Gardening, harvesting, food and seed saving, and just general farmish tasks. We are a no till, organic operation and I am just learning about this particular climate and seasons. I've got more fruit trees to plant, and soil building will be a primary goal. Lots to do!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

I have been a wwoof and workaway host for several years now, and it's been great. Moving from the dense urban Florida location to here is quite a change, but homesteading is homesteading, wherever you are. I think this place is going to become a wonderful hub of local food production. I ask that you respect mother earth and no smoking or drugs. I am also sensitive to chemicals and fragrances, so all your personal products must be unscented and chemical free. EWG.org is a great resource to find out more about that.

Not looking for someone to stay long term unless you have a lot of skills and we've come to an agreement after I've hosted you for a week or so
