    Description

Hi there, nice to meet you!

We are a couple that bought an old farmstead a few years back and have been slowly turning it into our home. The farm was built in the 1860ies and includes two large barns, an old baking and wash house, a pigsty and a meadow orchard.
The rural community we live in is situated in Northern Germany between Lübeck and Kiel near to the Baltic Sea. Hamburg is about an hour's drive away.
On our hobby farm we grow our own organic fruit and vegetables and have some chickens to provide us with eggs. We also have a dog and a cat.
When our children still went to school we had a lot of exchanges students (13 to be exact) over the years and we always very much relished the cultural diversity, different viewpoints and cuisine our guests brought into our house. Be our guest(s) too and bring yourself to our kitchen table were we will eat, talk and laugh.
There are always several projects going on on our farm simultaneously which makes it easy to find the right task for people of all skills and backgrounds and to learn new crafts and trades. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cooking dinner is always an option, too. Also, help with household chores, in the garden, and with seasonal activities (harvesting apples, making firewood) is very much valued.

We think inviting the world in is as important as going out into the world. We are looking forward to meeting people of all kind of different origins, backgrounds, believes, views, and opinions and we will as gladly share our experience as we will eagerly listen to your stories and what we can learn from you.
You can learn and deepen the following things with us: German, English, country life in a small village, gardening, living together with animals, shared family life, organic products, and knowledge about the region.
You are always welcome to get to know the village, talk to the locals (there are social events in the village on a regular basis), explore the nearby cities such as Lübeck, Kiel and Hamburg.

    Accommodation

You have your own room (bed, desk, chair, central heating) and your own bathroom (shower, washbasin, toilet) on the first floor and we share the kitchen and the dining room. You can also sleep in your car or camper van or pitch your tent in the garden.

We all eat together at least in the evenings. In the mornings and at lunchtime usually everyone looks after themselves, with all food being provided. We are accustomed to a mixed diet, including meat and fish in moderate amounts, but also eat vegetarian a lot.

    What else ...

It is important to us that you are able to work both as part of a team with us and on your own according to instructions and that you are happy to integrate into the family and everyday life and at the same time know how to keep yourself busy on your own. We also have our own routines and need time for ourselves from time to time.
Of course, we are always open to suggestions and tips on what you can do. In order to experience as much as possible, a car is recommended (you can park on the property), although buses are also available. We don't want to have to organise excursions for you ourselves. It is possible to borrow a bike from us.

In your free time you can explore the area with several lakes with bathing spots, nature reserves, forests and meadows and enjoy the relaxed country life.

By prior arrangement: We can also drive you to Pönitz Holstein railway station and to the bus and train stations in Bad Segeberg and pick you up if you want to go on excursions.

Please do not smoke in the house or take drugs on the premises.
