    Description

We have an area of sunny (sometimes!) hillside in rural east Clare. It is a humble holding with a polytunnel and several outdoor raised beds. We grow our own vegetables and herbs.
This place is something of a nature reserve with many mature trees visited by birds and animals and we are mostly chemical free. There is a spring well here and a small pond
We are 5km from nearest village, renowned for traditional music, 3.5km from our nearest pub. A beautiful lake with woodland walks, swimming and fishing is only a couple of kilometres away.
The world heritage site, the Burren is very accessible from here.
TFI (Transport for Ireland) do a great local bus service to nearby towns and villages. Also I can help with lifts.
The accommodation is a quiet caravan with electricity and woodstove. The beds can be extended to 2 doubles but would ideally suit 2 people. Compost toilet is close by and there is a shower and outdoor sink for visitors use.
There are guitars, books and Wi-Fi to share, as well as home cooked meals. Visitors would need to bring waterproofs and work gloves with them. We will enjoy chatting during mealtimes about the way things are done in your homeland and what are the cultural differences between Ireland and your country. We welcome learning new recipes and enjoy conversations and cultural exchanges.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

One host here is an artist and guitarist, the other has a passion for wild plants and their uses and is also keen on writing. We have a collection of books to borrow and are happy to share what knowledge we can.
We enjoy learning about life in different cultures and countries. We would be interested to try local dishes from your country if you fancy cooking something! Happy to learn whatever you have to teach us.
The nearby town has a well established local co-op that hosts a café, shop, community garden and various events and workshops.
Another village nearby holds a monthly market that sells wonderful home made gifts and produce and is a very sociable space.
There are a number of local music festivals taking place over the summer and gigs and events all year round. Although this is a rural spot, the surrounding area is both lively and interesting.

Help welcome with weeding, strimming raking, bramble cutting and generally trying to reclaim areas that have gone a bit wild. We have ideas for projects that may involve moving stones or timber so a strong back would be an advantage.

The accommodation is a quiet caravan with electricity and a woodstove. there is an earth toilet close by. We are just finishing off building a shower for visitors. Breakfast can be taken in the caravan and we can have lunch and dinner together at the house. It would be good to get occasional help with the food preparation and the washing up.
