    Description

Hello and welcome workawayers. We (Simon and Maren , both (36), Liah (3) and Lisa (38)) are quite happy that we can now offer a place to stay for you. After being workawayer ourselves and loved to travel and living in communities with others, we are now parents and started to create our own home with our 3-year old sunshine and my sister Lisa on the countryside. Very close to the Rhine inbetween a small village and surrounded by fields, animals and nature we bought this house and ground of 2500 m² in Jan. 2025. It is still a bit like a lost place due to the owners before who were not able to care for anything since years. Although we are in a rural area, it´s not "the edge of the world". With a bike, some smaller cities are easily reachable (Xanten, Kleve, Rees...), also the train station which connects via local train with netherlands and ruhr-area/cologne/düsseldorf. Right now, it´s only the house and ground around, but we are good friends with our neigbours on both sides who are in the same age and have animals and more farmland, so it feels like a way bigger area.
Beside all the work that needs to be done we enjoy the space for being together , having fun , music, friends and family that hang around here quite often, and even more when we put up the pool for the hot season again. We are happy if we can welcome you here- right now there is space for a 2 people/couple in the house (a huge room with a big shared bed is ready) and there is place for tents in the outside area. Sadly right now we share only one bathroom and only have cold water. Until summer that should be done, but you should be ok with a lower living standard.

We share everything that we know and have and welcome you to be part of our family. We used to live in a shared flat during our time in Berlin with +4 others, so we love to live in communities and at the weekend often have friends from different places here. If you are interested, we can show you the area and give you a cap to the trainstation or a bike for exploring the beautiful places around. Also netherlands is right around the corner.
We can teach you a bit in carpentry (Simons first profession, now he is a social worker), music (guitar, piano) and garden stuff (Marens profession) and share what we already learned during our own workaway stays + the restoration of a friends farmhouse, but still a lot of the things we are doing is also for us a first try. Nothing needs to be perfect at the end :-).

Right now there are many aspects where you could join in- depending on what you like to experience or learn. There is a lot in the house going on: we are doing almost everything by ourselves where you can join in if you want to, or simply start your own little project . In the garden area we didn't really start yet. Although we did some basics for having own veggies this summer, there is still a lot of space and so much potential. I already have some kind of plans because landscape architecture is my profession and hobby (it will be a garden with permacultural aspects one day) but there is still a lot place for creativity. Also spending time and playing with Liah and Aria (my sisters dog), preparing veggies for winter and cooking together are daily tasks that can be shared.
We have a bit of a plan what we want to start in which month- for more detailled information, just write a message :-)

we don´t have a lot of rules- just please don´t smoke in front of our daughter or inside the house and when it´s very dry- please also not in the back-garden due to fire risk. We have a cosy bench in front of the house :-)
