    Description

Our place is a very special spot in the wilds of south west Scotland. We live on a magical small holding with woodland, rivers and pasture. We are a permaculture land centre of 15 very diverse acres. We grow food, manage woodland and develop our site by sustainable practises. We see ourselves primarily as an educational resource and want our volunteers to gain skills and knowledge during their time with us.

We are the experimental land centre for a charity/ cic dedicated to grassroots empowerment through food systems and growing skills. We often host tours or land based educational events. We see this kind of cultural exchange as our primary reason for hosting volunteers. Over the past 11 years of hosting we refined our offering to ensure that our volunteers have a wonderful cultural emersion in a permaculture land centre, our visions is to increase resilience in society by teaching skills and a different approach to life.

I'm obsessed with forest gardening and edible plants. We do a lot of gardening, harvesting and preserving all with a permaculture bent.

My partner makes machines and bicycles and often Involved in bigger art projects. He is driven by self empowerment through skills and tool use.

We accept 4 week volunteers on the land centre, getting involved in all our activities here, gardening, preserving, tree work and animal care, (dinkies and chickens ). Sometimes, when we all get along brilliantly and there is benefit for everyone we extend stays, 15 months is the record to date.

Our day starts at 10am with a morning meeting, we do a couple of hours. We all eat lunch together. Usually I cook and that is my chance to share food culture. Then we clear up and work till 4om. Weekends are free. Volunteers have their own kitchen and food supplies for breakfasts and dinners.

Whilst we are rural we have lots of amazing visitors and plenty of stimulation. Galloway culture is fairly unique, creative and self sufficient. The local area offers endless opportunity to explore nature.

longer term volunteers have a gorgeous expedition truck or our little pond side hut, we also have some less glamorous caravans.

    all food is provided.
    except chocolate and booze.
