    Description

I am a self motivated woman from Quebec. I have lived on Haida Gwaii, BC for 12 years now, a remote community on a remote island which is a rainforest surrounded by the sea and by mountains. I bought a property in 2021 which I have worked hard to settle onto (including moving a whole house onto the property and building a greenhouse and wood working shop)! I have had many workaway folks come help me with this in the past few years who have helped with building, gardening, cleaning, cooking, organizing...and we have had such an amazing time together!!! I have travelled extensively and lived abroad for many years and love to meet folks from around the globe. I'm a pretty social person, love traveling, listening and playing music (ukulele), dancing, hiking, paddle boarding/kayaking, scuba diving, wild harvesting, cooking, doing yoga, reading... and chillin in my hammock! That being said, I am also a very autonomous person and would love to host people who can work alone when directions and expected outcome are clear and who have a minimum of building and tool use experience.
I will be starting a new building project in the spring/summer/fall of 2025: barrel composters, an outhouse, and finishing constructing the back shed! There will also be lots of gardening work to do and finishing work to make the greenhouse look better! If anyone has experience with mosaic work, I've been so inspired after visiting Gaudi's park in Barcelona, I want to create something as beautiful!!!

Since I moved my house onto my property (2022), I have been building up the garden, composters, a wood working shop (ongoing), a greenhouse (spring/summer 2024) and improving the space in general.

In 2025, the focus will be on transforming the wood working shop into a spare bedroom, building an outdoor outhouse for the yurt, improving the garden space, building new compost bins, etc. Lots of various help will be needed but anyone with diy building skills will be prioritized. Oh, my lovely dog Henri always needs love and attention and good exercise so that is also part of the help I need.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

There are a few options including a recreational vehicle with a double bed, it's own kitchen and living room which is parked in my yard OR a private room in my house. I have a 2 bedroom house, with each bedroom being at opposite ends of the house. That being said, the bedroom you would be using is also my massage room so it periodically needs to be vacated during the day. There is space for tents on the property as well and the wood workshop could be set up as a living space too. I would enjoy cooking to be shared but am prepared to cook for volunteers as well if that isn't part of your skill set! Would love to share at least 1 meal a day with volunteers. Helps keep communication flowing!

There are lots to do around here including kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, nature walks, a great Haida Museum, good restaurants, a yoga studio, ecstatic dance, open mics and karaoke, wild harvesting possibilities galore!!!
