    Description

We are a family who live in the town of Alice Springs in Central Australia. We have 3 young children, Zaram who will be 1 in March 2025, Esther who is 3, and Keira who is almost 5. Keira will be starting primary school in 2025, and Esther will be in preschool two mornings a week. The girls love swimming, playing outside, bike riding, music, dancing, reading, dolls, the usual! Our house is a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house located in a safe neighbourhood close to town, with a front yard, large back verandah, and small refreshing pool for the summer months.
Alice Springs is known as the red centre of Australia! It's the nearest large town to Uluru (Ayers Rock) and has a lot of magical scenery and there are plenty of walks and watering holes nearby for swimming, BBQs, camping, and exploring. It's in the desert so there is plenty of sunshine throughout the year but it can still get a bit chilly in winter, (think warm jumpers, not big coats!!) The town has a unique personality of its own and is a very transient location, so there is a lot of socialising and people from many nationalities and cultures all come here. It's very easy to meet people and make friends.
We don't have pets but we live near a dog park with lots of friendly dogs the girls enjoy seeing. I am a teacher, I work for the school of the air teaching high school students from remote communities and cattle stations.
We are looking for someone to care for our children while I work, 2 days per week, and assist with drop offs/pick ups on these days also.

You will discover life in a small town in the outback of Australia. You will meet people from many different cultures by living and working here. I am also happy to show you how the School of the Air works to educate students from outback communities, cattle stations and outstations.

Work would be required usually for only 2 days a week. If you could do an occasional evening that would be fantastic. There is usually some flexibility in this depending on timetabled classes - as in sometimes it could change to 3 shorter days if that works better.
You will need to be confident driving a manual car. Help required includes taking the girls to playgroup, dropping Keira at school and Esther at preschool on preschool days, feeding them meals at home, walking to the park, playing in the yard, etc. Other time is your own, but we do appreciate you spending time with us sometimes when we are all at home so the girls feel comfortable with you. Alice Springs qualifies for the 88 days work to extend the working holiday visa, and with these hours there is plenty of opportunity for you to get a job outside the home for this purpose.

You will have your own bedroom with a king single bed, cupboard, bedside table, and bookshelf. You will share a bathroom and toilet with the kids for bathtime. Meals are included if you wish to eat with us, if you have particular preferences or requirements you will need to provide your own. Snacks etc own catering.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our children have some food allergies, and you must be comfortable with using an EpiPen (we can also provide training for this). Our oldest is allergic to peanuts and sesame (including tahini found in hummus) and our youngest has a minor allergy to egg. This shouldn't affect you too much other than our house is (mostly!) free of these items. We don't have any house rules as such but we would want to know when you're going out as we would feel responsible for your safety and wellbeing when you're living with us. And also, we would prefer it if you don't smoke, or take drugs whilst staying at our home.
We live walking distance from town, and can give you lifts places sometimes if necessary. Happy to take you out with us sightseeing occasionally too.
