    Description

*we have now secured a workawayer for September - December and are looking for a workawayer for December/January 2026 onwards*

We are a happy, busy family of 5, living in South East London and looking for an energetic and fun individual to join us for a few months to help with childcare and light household tasks.

We have three children - a 7.5yo boy and 5yo boy/girl twins. All three children attend local schools from 8am - 5.30pm Monday - Friday. The kids are great fun - they love Uno and jigsaws, reading, scooting/cycling, trips to the park, helping with cooking, putting on shows and generally laughing and playing. They all get on well and are kind, considerate and well mannered children.

We live in a 6-bedroom terraced house and the workawayer would have a good sized double bedroom at the top of the house with their own shower room. From our local train stations, you can be in London Bridge or Victoria in about 10 mins; and Kings Cross in 25. We live 40 minutes from Oxford Street by bus. You would be free to travel at weekends and, on prior arrangement, for long weekends away. All accommodation and food are included in the exchange.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

London is a hugely diverse city, with endless opportunities for exploring and getting involved in the local community. As a family, we welcome someone who wants to understand how a British family operates, and all of us enjoy learning about other cultures too. We enjoy cooking/baking and you would be welcome to develop your skills and show us what cuisines you enjoy. Our eldest loves language and if you speak languages other than English he, in particular, would be delighted. Mum speaks near fluent German too.

  • Help

    Help

We would like to find an au pair to help get the children ready for school and take them - the twins are a 2 minute walk away and the eldest a couple of miles (walk/train). We then need someone to collect our eldest a couple of days a week, and pick up the twins each evening, before helping them with homework (reading/spellings) and an evening snack. Most evenings we would like help with the simple bedtime routine, reading a story, helping with bathtime etc.

The middle of the day would belong to you and the weekends are your own. Help around the house and a little bit of babysitting would also be greatly appreciated though the priority for us is someone who is a strong communicator who already speaks English and is genuinely interested in getting to know our kids.

Light housework would include tidying up the kids toys, helping with dinner prep, occasional laundry (for the kids) and keeping the house going.

Mum and Dad don't go out much but do work long hours, often from home, so most mornings/evenings one parent or both will help too. Someone able to spot jobs and be flexible and use initiative would be great.

It is paid (i.e. 20-25 hrs a week and you will receive remuneration equivalent to the minimum wage on a standard au pair contract) but only if you are able to show us in advance that you can work legally in the UK (i.e. be British or Irish citizen, refugee/immigration status in the UK to work, EUSS, Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa, or have work visa). Ideally the applicant should also have DBS or equivalent (police check), or agree to do one, and experience with childcare. Would be ideal for young Brit or Irish person or student wanting to explore London's possibilities, do study/ internships/work experience (we would try to be flexible to allow working hours between school pickups or evenings).

    What else ...

London has endless things to do at the weekend - lots of it for free. Whether it's museums, walking tours, national munuments, window-shopping, markets etc. You could take any number of trains to the coast, or 100s of lovely towns and cities across the country. Camberwell and Peckham are on your doorstep and are great, young, studenty areas with loads of bars activities too.
