Description
We live in Canmore Alberta- a small beautiful mountain community in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. It is a thriving ,active community near Banff and main industry is tourism. There are countless opportunities for outdoor activities . We own 2 horses in a local riding club and ride the trails close to town as well as trailering out around the mountains. We are looking for an individual to live with us to help with horse care and chores , to help with some home maintenance and gardening and house and dog sitting in the summer months. We are a family of 3 - 2 young active riding and hiking seniors with a young adult rider who is also involved with our horses.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Our community is a tourism community for the most part. Learning about Canada and the Rocky Mountains and outdoor skills are abundant. We are close to Banff National Park and Kananaskis country where you can learn about the history of the area. There are opportunities to learn about Canadian horse culture in the mountains as well as nearby rodeos and horse events. There is opportunity to go to events like Calgary Stampede and small town rodeos and also to learn about First Nations peoples in Canada by visiting pow wows and Indigenous events in the area. We are reasonably experienced horse people who are willing to share what we know, we have been living in the community for 35 and 45 years respectively so know the community well snd my husband has owned his own construction and project management firm for years. We are semi retired and I am training in Equine Facilitated Wellness and am happy to share these skills where time permits. We have enjoyed hosting International High School students in the past as well as meeting other young adults working in our country. We hope to learn about your country, learn from your skills and develop friendships. We have travelled many places in the world and enjoy the different perspectives that we all bring. There is a young adult network group in Canmore for socializing with other young adults.
Help
Horse care, riding and chores- would be instructed as to expectations together with us and when understanding the routines, could be working on own. We prefer a person with experience with horses who is guided by principles of humane natural horsemanship practises and care. Home maintenance could be projects such as painting , paddock clean up , light construction ( fixing gates, clean eavestroughs) and clean up around home and riding club, garden weeding and watering in small garden. The maintenance would be supervised as needed.

We provide a room in our home. There is a shared bathroom with shower and bath.No vehicles are provided for transportation and there is a good public transit within walking distance of home and riding club. Food will be provided as we eat- healthy food with all food groups including meat. We will regularly cook dinners and participant can eat with us or separate as they like. If we are out for dinner, people will be required to cook own meal with food available . Food for lunch and breakfasts will be available to prepare by self or with us if we are around. We ask that participants be ok with the food we provide - we cannot provide for highly specialized diets. When we are away participants are asked to cook their own meals .
What else ...
If you like outdoor activities such as hiking and biking this is a good place to be. There is local transit for getting around town, to horse club and to Banff. Horse club is a 20-30 min walk from our house. Downtown Canmore is a 20-30 min walk. You could buy a cheap local bike and get around that way. Time off options are outdoor activities and there are local young adult groups where you could meet others to hike, bike, and socialize and go to events out of town.
We live a fairly quiet lifestyle and expect tidiness, communication and moderation. You will not be allowed to bring guests to party or sleep overnight and we ask that you communicate if you will be away for evenings or days off. No smoking of anything or use of alcohal or drugs in house or on property . There is no parking for vehicles at our property. No loud noise . Help schedule would be looked at week to week in a meeting and time can be negotiated and we expect the participant to be self motivated and show up as expected.A little more information
