Description
Living in an Alpine village in the north of Slovenia our day-to-day motivation is living it: the life of the mountains. We run a small organic farm with herbs and berries (and all the veggies we ayre able to grow on our path towards self-sustainability), Matej works with wood besides - and we do have small kids and a dog, so anybody not wanting company of either is better off rethinking before the application:)

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The main draw to our place would be the splendid mountain environment: it is perfect for anybody with desire for vertical horizons (and with some experiences), and we are more than happy to facilitate your visits to the mountains, as both have quite some experiences in mountaineering, and equipment to lend. The second would be work with nature, the knowledge we gained throug the years about it. And the third is the stories we all bring to the table, no? We have been hosts at Helpx for more then a decade now and do know the richness of encouters brought through working togheter and sharing the meals, and enjoy it from both sides - and if the comments on our helpx page are any indication, so did our volunteers.
Help
We try to grow as much own food as possible here in the mountains, so most of the help will be farming-on-the-tiny-scale-related, patient help of working the land, working with plants, spending time in nature - and learning to grow your own food on the way. Matej has often some woodworking projects on the plate, so if you have some experience with it, you can join him there as well. There is always some help around the house too, so the tasks will be varied enough not to feel bored to quickly.

Accomodation: a tiny garden house with the basic equipment (think a regular-no-jacuzzi-or-champagne glamping:D). It does have space for two: all the beding, induction plate, fridge, and all the venerated basics: a compostable toilet, solar generated electricity, wifi, and hot-and-cold running water. And the garden around. And the stunning views.
Cooking, eating and socializing: As spring and summer are the busiest part of the year and we enjoy new culinary delights, we are most happy if we take turns in meal preparation (and a house rule is that whoever is not cooking is cleaning afterwards, so cooking might be in your interest as well:D) After catering to helpers with incredibly divers eating habits/limitations we decided to lower the amount of hours you work (20-22 per week instead of 30) in exchange of only providing one meal: the shared lunch. Breakfasts and dinners are up to you. The high amount of free time and free rein will delight people with solid plans to explore the area and its natural and sporty dimensions, and will be easier to enjoy to the fullest if you come in twoes.
And the stunning place you will be living in? Jezersko is a superb alpine valley on 900 m with a lot of outdoor activities: mountaineering, climbing, via ferrata, walking, cycling... We would be happy to give you more info and rent you a bike or some hiking equipment if the need arrives. As there are ca 21 hours of work and 168 hours in total (per week, that is) and we will make plans together in the way that all of us get the best out of it, I see no obstacles for you not to enjoy both your leisure and your work time. To conclude: Jezersko is a paradise for outdoorsy people, but would not be a place for people looking for big events and a lot of entertainment and a rich nightlife, as we don't have them. And sure: you'll get the most out of your stay if you know how to enjoy exploring on your own as in the season we don't have much leisure time, if at all.
And to the applications finally: if you have hands-on skills and/or experience in agriculture/gardening/ maintainance/building/woodworking areas, that would be a big bonus when choosing whom we can welcome in the limited time - a keen interest in learning more another one. The absolute minimum duration of stay would be ten days, as any less just doesn't make it possible to start to get to know each other. However, we do prefer longer stays, and are always happy to welcome dedicated trainees. What else ...
