Hello all, hoping you are well.

We are Daniel & Kirstie, we've had this profile for around a year and have greatly enjoyed meeting the community in person and sharing some memorable times together.

Dani is from Mexico, Kirstie from England, we've both travelled and participated in work/study exchanges away from home over many years both solo and as a couple. Our experiences have nurtured us in a positive way and shown us the wild beauty of this Earth.

*** For now Dani is travelling alone in Europe so he will be delighted to meet you, he'll be able to tell you more about us, and of course, offer his energy to the cause.
Kirstie is currently working full time in a SEN pre-school and a primary school in England, and hopes to join Dani's travels occasionally.***

When we first got together we spent around a year and half backpacking through parts of northern and southern Mexico, hitchhiking and camping mostly in rural areas, to get to know each other better, exploring and meeting interesting folk!
During that time we were fortunate to enjoy many improvised volunteer work exchanges, here are a few:

+ Caring for over 60 doggies at a woodland refuge near San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas.
+ Inventory for 3 species of endangered palms in the reforestation project La Otra Opción, nearby Reserva de la Biosfera de Los Tuxtlas, Ver.
+ Restructuring and planting vegetable beds in the Sierra Sur, San Mateo Río Hondo, Oaxaca.
+ Starting out as a volunteers at Palmarito sea turtle conservation camp, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, we later became full time staff for almost 2 years, Dani as field technician protecting the eggs and hatchlings during the nocturnal nesting cycle, also as a nature tour guide, and Kirstie worked as coordinator for the Dark Nights environmental awareness program to reduce light pollution affecting sea turtle behaviour on nesting beaches www.campamentopalmarito.com/en/dark-nights

Over spring and summer of 2024 we travelled through Spain and France, during which time we started using the Workaway platform. We are very happy to have had this opportunity and we feel lucky to have experienced it. We had 3 incredible experiences with hosts and places that we will carry in our hearts.

Hola a todos, espero que estén bien.

Somos Daniel y Kirstie, hemos tenido este perfil durante aproximadamente un año y hemos disfrutado mucho conocer a la comunidad en persona y compartir momentos memorables juntos.

Dani es de México y Kirstie de Inglaterra. Ambos hemos viajado y participado en intercambios de trabajo y estudio fuera de casa durante muchos años, tanto solos como en pareja. Nuestras experiencias nos han nutrido de manera positiva y nos han mostrado la belleza salvaje de esta Tierra.

Kirstie actualmente trabaja a tiempo completo en un preescolar NEE y una escuela primaria en Inglaterra, y espera unirse a los viajes de Dani ocasionalmente.***

Cuando primero nos juntamos pasamos alrededor de un año y medio viajando con mochila a la espalda por partes del norte y sur de México, de raite y acampando principalmente en áreas rurales, para conocernos mejor, explorar y conocer gente interesante. Durante ese tiempo tuvimos la suerte de disfrutar de muchos intercambios de trabajo voluntario improvisados, aquí algunos:

+ Cuidado de más de 60 perritos en un refugio forestal cerca de San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.
+ Inventario de 3 especies de palmas en peligro de extinción en el proyecto de reforestación La Otra Opción, cerca de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Los Tuxtlas, Ver.
+ Reestructuración y plantación de huertos en la Sierra Sur, San Mateo Río Hondo, Oaxaca.
+ Empezamos como voluntarios en el campamento de conservación de tortugas marinas de Palmarito, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, y luego nos convertimos en personal de tiempo completo durante casi 2 años, Dani como técnico de campo protegiendo los huevos y las crías durante el ciclo de anidación nocturna, también como guía de turismo de naturaleza, y Kirstie trabajó como coordinadora del programa de concienciación ambiental Dark Nights para reducir la contaminación lumínica que afecta el comportamiento de las tortugas marinas en las playas de anidación www.campamentopalmarito.com/es/dark-nights

Durante la primavera y el verano de 2024 viajamos por España y Francia, tiempo durante el cual comenzamos a utilizar la plataforma Workaway. Estamos muy contentos de haber tenido esta oportunidad y nos sentimos afortunados de haberlo vivido. Tuvimos 3 experiencias increíbles con anfitriones y lugares que llevaremos en nuestros corazones.

We are flexible people, interested in advancing and learning new skills. Our most enriching experiences have been among Nature, with animals and spending time with other humanimals.
+ Growing edible plants and life on the ranch: taking care of goats, horses, pigs, maintaining and harvesting from the garden/orchard, collecting firewood, cooking on a wood stove.
+ House and land care: general cleaning and maintenance, basic carpentry, restoration of historic buildings, gardening, use of power tools.
+ Art & Design: creation of mosaics, collage, simple graphic design on Canva (flyers, exhibitions), organisation and planning of spaces for greater functionality and visual harmony.
+ Conservation of Earth’s biosphere through research, data collection, environmental education, impact reduction.
+ Alternative tourism: environmental interpretation, observation of the night sky & wildlife, encouraging emotional connection with Nature, hospitality in lodging and restaurants, snorkel guides in reefs.
+ Translation of written documents and interpretation of live Spanish-English conversation.
+ Mentoring, emotional and communication support for vulnerable persons (previous experience with people in situation of refuge and detention).
+ Childcare support: homework supervision, food preparation, fun games.
