  • Description

Hello, I'm Phill. I run a flower farm in the lovely South-West of France (near Toulouse) but find that, as I work where I live, I need to take the quiet time of winter to get away and decompress and use distance to gain perspective.

Naturally, given my job, I am very outdoorsy, and into wildlife, conservation, horticulture and animal husbandry. I grew up in West Wales and crave time near the coast. My professional background includes conservation, zoo management, university lecturing and horticulture. I have a BSc in Animal Training and Behaviour, and a MSc in Wildlife Management and Conservation, and I love research. I also teach English in France alongside the farming. We have multiple animals on the farm here (dogs, cats, geese, ducks, chickens, parrots etc.) and enjoy all aspects of animal care.

That being said I'm very hands-on and practically minded, and enjoy getting my hands dirty. We're (my partner and I ) are renovating our rambling 200 y/o farmhouse and I have acquired multiple new DIY skills over the last 6 years of the project.

I reckon I'm an easy guest, laid back, humorous and not too shabby in the kitchen. I like to paint, love to read, and would describe myself as 50/50 creative and scientific. We've hosted workawayers at our home, and now I look to experience it from the other perspective for the first time. My partner is willing and happy to look after our farm and animals while I get away, as due to busy growing seasons I am unable to take time away throughout the year.

  • More details about your skills

I have green fingers, as befitting my family name (Greenwell) and am adept at most plant propagation techniques. Most recently I tried seed smoking as I have bought some Australian native seeds that benefit from the practice, which was fun!

I am qualified and experienced in teaching the English language, and can happily converse in French and mangle sentences with my very rusty Italian. I have a background in teaching, specifically around animal care and husbandry.

On a practical note I'm fairly adept with a paint brush, trowel, sledge hammer etc. and other DIY needs.
