Howdy everyone!

My name is Herman, and I’m a 23-year-old Dutch student, freshly graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence. I’m taking this gap year to explore the world, gain new skills, and experience life in new places.

I’m an outdoorsy person at heart, having been a scout and scout leader for eight years until last year. Hard physical work is something I enjoy, and I’m always excited to tackle new challenges and learn practical skills. In my free time, you’ll find me hiking through forests, working on woodworking projects (as much as my dorm allows), or attempting to learn the harmonica. I love a good cup of coffee with a book in hand, going for a run, or spending time bouldering.

Nature, craftsmanship, and the night sky are things I’m passionate about. I’m particularly interested in honing my handyman skills and would love the chance to work on larger projects—I’ve mostly worked on maintenance around my scouting group and at our student canteens. Besides that, I regularly help out with construction at my survival-run association. I also have some limited experience with welding, electrical work, and carpentry. I am eager to deepen my skills in these areas.

I’m looking forward to meeting new people, discovering unique places, and immersing myself in different cultures. I’m fluent in Dutch and English, and I’m also working on improving my Spanish through a university program.

I’m endlessly curious and always open to new experiences, whether that’s exploring hidden gems, trying local dishes, or sharing conversations that range from small talk to the mysteries of space!

I’m an experienced programmer with a solid foundation in service roles, having worked in the field for over three years. While my expertise lies in tech, I also have hands-on experience in carpentry, painting, and resin casting, which I enjoy experimenting with in my free time.
