Hello, I am Jiří from the Czech Republic :)
When I was 20 years old, I fell in love with traveling. I worked, studied and volunteered for a long term in various countries including the USA, Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Iceland and Malta. I finished a master's degree in Computer Science & Engineering, however I am taking my time before I will settle down. I prefer to use this time of my life to go on adventures like traveling, exploring new cultures, exploring myself and finding what's meaningful in life. Thankfully, I discovered volunteering which combines all of that :) So far, I have been helping out in various animal shelters and other Workaway places. I love to meditate, exercise, go on hikes, dumpster dive, do origami, play music, hitchhiking, paragliding, rock climbing, slacklining, snowboarding and basically being active.

I have an experience with caring for dogs, cats, horses, birds and farm animals like chickens, goats and donkeys. I also grew up with multiple dogs, guinea pigs, rats and a rabbit.
I am used to physical labor, however I have some chronic issues with my back, shoulder and knees that I need to be patient with.
I also don't shy away from the house chores like cleaning, organizing or cooking.
Moreover, I can help with any tasks related to computers or internet.

Jiri was a valuable team member at our animal shelter. His good basic understanding of situations and priorities allowed him to identify and mention important points and proactively contribute to improving the project. He did all kinds of jobs in a good quality and is also skilled with tools.

It is not an easy task to write a review that would tell you something new after more than twenty people have praised this place. I won't reiterate that all the animals here are absolutely lovely, that Alberto cooks the best food in the world, and that the community here is really inspiring. It has all been mentioned already, so feel free to read… read more the other reviews too. Instead, I would like to take a different approach and switch the roles for a moment. When a volunteer leaves, our host Raúl usually shares his thoughts and experiences with the person, which creates a beautiful memory anytime you come back to read it. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to write a personal letter for you, Raúl.

First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude for gifting me and all the others with the amazing opportunity to work on your project. You're doing a great service for the animals and the whole community. Your dream exceeds just the mere aid to the ones in need because I believe that you have a deeply rooted passion to cultivate a brighter future for every living being. And although your ideas and plans could easily span over several lifetimes, knowing your dedication to the project, I have no doubt that there will be a day when you look around and you'll be proud that all your dreams finally came true. And we will be proud of you. Hence, I am extremely grateful that I could help you to get closer to your goal, and I can't wait to see all the progress when I return. This project feels like home to me.

And I couldn't have wished for more. During my first days, I remember you assembled a meeting, and I was worried that something was wrong. Perhaps that we hadn't met your expectations or that we should have started working longer hours. Instead, you were simply trying to bring us closer together and create a stronger sense of community. At that moment, I realized that you were unlike any other host that I've encountered. If I didn't know who you were, I would probably confuse you with just another volunteer. You always worked alongside us and spent your time with the community. I've discovered that we have a lot in common, and I can truly relate to your life story, and that's probably why you've become one of my best friends. You also genuinely cared about me. When we were together and a rock crushed my finger or when I dislocated my shoulder on another occasion, I could feel a sincere concern in your voice, and you immediately took action to assist me. I also appreciate that you acknowledged my chronic conditions, and you didn't let me do heavy physical work despite my stubbornness. I would rather break my back than leaving the heavy work for others, but fortunately, we managed to find a more suitable role for me in this project. So thank you very much for that.

I have also recollected our adventures, which yielded a really extensive list because you same as me, are not afraid to say Yes to all crazy ideas. Since the first day, we started meeting at 5 am to do our morning routines – meditation, breathing exercise, rehabilitation, workout, running, cold plunge, and sometimes a fire after. Thank you for keeping me motivated and staying disciplined. We also did many sports like football, basketball, volleyball, or kickboxing. We went on hikes with the dogs and slept in a cave where we built furniture from stones. You taught me about things to eat in the wilderness, including flowers and grass or leaves and rocks. We've done creative activities too like designing a board game, inventing games with rocks, jamming, learning with the loop station, or shooting videos. For fun, we organized weekend activities, gatherings, morning raves, and parties. We enjoyed our free time by playing board games or on a Play Station, watching UFC in the middle of the night, swimming with Pili in the pool, having water gun fights, making fires, and so many more.

So for the thousandth time, thank you so much for everything. Have a wonderful time while I am gone, and I wish you the best of luck with the project. All the love, all the power.

Jiri was a great help on the farm. Very helpful, lots of initiative and a pleasure to have around. He was good with the animals and they liked him too. Jiri worked hard and always with a smile. I would not hesitate to recommend him to any host. Thanks Jiri, come back and visit soon!

Jiri, is a wonderful young man, helpful, energetic and friendly. He was happy to help with any work that I presented him with, from sailing, animal care, firewood, cooking and cleaning.

Staying at Leea's place was wonderful. If you like being around animals, look no further. You can cuddle with the dogs, pet the cat, talk with the parrot, collect the eggs from the chickens and take care of the donkey and goats. Helping at the watermill was overall a great experience. I enjoyed working outside a lot and I met many interesting pilgrims on their way to Santiago. Nicolaus was fair and you will get along with him easily.
