Hi everyone :)
Lovely to meet you, I'm Lisa from Australia and I'm excited to have the opportunity to meet and experience life with all of you.

I joined Workaway with the hope that I can utilise my current skills and engage in a positive cultural exchange. If I've contacted you it's likely because I think we can both mutually learn and benefit from one another.

In Australia I work in the education field, having ~5 years experience in a secondary classroom and ~3 in early years/ primary education. I enjoy engaging with young people and sharing new skills. Additionally I have grown up on a farm, around many different animals and so am comfortable engaging in various animal centred and property maintenance tasks. I love being outdoors and exploring new places.

I am an avid traveller. In 2023 I spent most of the year backpacking through Africa and Europe, and while this was fantastic I did miss the sense of community and accomplishment you get from being in one place for a while. I would love to experience slow life with you while having the opportunity to further my skills and experience a different way of living.

Professional experience:

8 years education experience
– completed a education research program for a month in Rural India. Learning how to plan for and teach students English in a foreign language setting
- worked as an out-of-school-hours educator for students aged 6-12.
- Secondary school Psychology and Science educator for the past 5 years. Heavily involved in planning/classroom management/ lesson sequencing etc. (VCE certficate/ Victorian curriculum)
- Taught in the Cook Islands to NZQA standard

Farm work experience
Grew up on a hobby farm with cows, sheep, chickens etc. Was responsible for feeding/ moving etc.
Very comfortable around animals of all types

Hospitality:
6 years hospitality work
– bar tending
– waitressing

Currently studying a TEFL
Languages: English but really trying to learn Spanish

I love hiking/ nature walking. I will very likely be doing a lot of this wherever I am.
