  • Description

    Hello, everyone in workaway community!
I'm Mio, currently living in and learning at university in Japan.
I went to Seoul in March, 2024 and found traveling interesting. I'm trying to find my own traveling style.
Although I'm relatively an in-door person, I really like walking. I often walk in the morning around the nearest park. The campus is surrounded by nature and I love it. I can see and feel the changes of season while walking. My favorite flower (tree) is cherry blossom because my name means 'beautiful cherry blossom' and my favorite season is of course spring :)
Basically I like to try new things, except hard sports and dangerous things. I'm interested in agriculture, sustainability, biodiversity and indigenous studies. I am going to go study abroad probably from February in 2025 for a year.

More details about my language interests
Japanese: I'm a native Japanese speaker. Although I have no experiences of teaching Japanese formally, I think I can teach Japanese through conversation and learning from everyday experiences! English: I started leaning English in 2013. Now my level is that I am taking all classes in English at my university. I cannot speak like native speakers do. I want to improve my English skills. Maybe I can teach in a concrete way because I have experienced English education in Japan. Spanish: I just started learning Spanish in fall, 2023. I'm takin Spanish class at my university. I think I can have basic conversation. I'm happy to have language learning experiences with you!

  • More details about your skills

As a part-time job, I have an experience of teaching English to a junior high school student. Currently I'm working at Japanese food select shop (here: https://kuzefuku-com.translate.goog/?_x_tr_sl=ja&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc). So I think I have some knowledge about Japanese food. I belong to community outreach club in which I help local farmers growing vegetables and rice. Also, one local farmer owns Japanese traditional house called Kominka, and I help repair it. For example, we cut bricks to make pizza oven and take soils by digging holes and make the basement of the floor. This activity is so fun because I cannot experience this at my home or university.

  • What else ...

I like walking, writing sentences, reading books. I also watch some major anime in Japan; Oshi no ko, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Spy family, and Detevtive Conan.

  • Some more information

    • Smoker

    • Driver's licence

    • Allergies

    • Special dietary requirements
I'm a pescatarian, so I do not eat meat(pork, beef, chicken). I eat eggs and milk. But I also think that food is really related to the culture of the land and I want to respect the culture. Even if local dishes include meat, I would like to taste it!
