My next destination:
New Zealand - from Oct 2022 until Jan 2026 View allDescription
Kia Ora i’m Rae, a 28 year old Paediatric Nurse from England. I’ve been on quite a wander for the past 2+ years- I hiked from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail in the US for 6 months. I then came straight to New Zealand to hike the length of the country on Te Araroa! I lived outside, with less, for over ten months. It slowed my pace of life right down and made me appreciate the small things. Like squishy moss! And cool fungus!
I then did a 3 month work away on an animal sanctuary near Otaki with a big communal living/ off-grid living element. I learnt building skills and animal care. I often go back for 2-3 week workstays and consider the people and the animals there my New Zealand family!
Truly connecting with likeminded people brings me happiness- at the moment that is those who love the outdoors and nature, and living more off-grid, simple lives. Also weird hobbies are fun to learn.
I enjoy workaways which provide chance to dive into a more sustainable lifestyle and learning new handy skills from fellow kind people. I am aiming to stay in beautiful Aotearoa long term and hopefully live in the Kaimai's area.
At the moment I am moving back to the Tauranga area after completing a 6 month nursing contract in Taranaki. I am excited to get back to my outdoor living roots, have a break from my busy profession, and learn more! I have a van which I have lived in on-and-off for over 1 year.Interests

More details about your skills
I have experience in a weird array of areas such as paediatric nursing, teaching first aid and english, bar work, camp counselling, cleaning, and more recently- generally surviving in the outdoors whilst hiking for ten long, awesome months!
How do these skills fit into a workaway setting? I’m super adaptable and I LOVE people. I’m a listener and a talker. I can pick up on a room’s vibes/feelings pretty well. I’ve worked in some very fast paced, stressful environments but have always surprised myself with my ability to stay calm and collected. I’m not shy for learning new things and asking questions when i don’t understand something. I’m also more than happy to share and teach others new things!
I’ve missed cooking and baking whilst thru-hiking as I haven’t had access to any sort of ‘kitchen’ in a while! So I would be happy to share and learn some new recipes. I also love sharing art, music, poetry, writing, anything creative. I’m no pro at any of these, but I know that it’s what brings me some joy :)Age

What else ...
I’m always down for a games night, especially the kind that gather everyone around a campfire and get us being silly and giggling.
I love listening to and sharing music. Happy to deep dive into an hour+ long rambling with people about their favourite artists. Some more information
