Description
Hi everyone,
I'm 35 years old freelance journalist from Scotland. I plan to spend much of the summer outdoors and eventually make my way to Spain overland. First by bicycle from Glasgow to London, then by sailing boat from England to Spain.
I have much experience of practical jobs outdoors in all weather. I've worked summers as a labourer for a landscape gardener company, as ground crew in tree surgery and putting up tents at music festivals. These jobs included using power tools, though I'm not a skilled worker. I am, however, fit and healthy and uncomplaining.
I've lived and volunteered in situations with little privacy and used Couchsurfing and Warmshowers (Like Couchsurfing for cyclists) in the past, so can comfortably live in close quarters with all sorts of people. I consider myself a polite and respectful person.
I've been on many long distance cycling trips, one from Scotland to Morocco, another Scotland to Georgia, as well as shorter trips around Japan and New Zealand. I also love hiking trails and have walked all over Scotland and Spain. Going on trips like these with a couple of books in my bags is probably my favourite thing to do.Interests

More details about your skills
Ah... Young(ish) and energetic?
I speak conversational French and intermediate Spanish, improving on these is the main reason I've signed up to workaway.
I've travelled widely by bicycle across Europe, Morocco, Turkey, Georgia, Japan and New Zealand and often found myself in many novel situations, so I've gained confidence and determination through these trips. I read widely and am curious about many things.
My work experience has been in bars, tourism (working at Edinburgh Castle), teaching English, labouring and as a support worker in mental health. I recently finished an undergraduate degree in economic and social history.
I enjoy cooking, though I'm not a talented cook there are a few dishes I can make which taste pretty good.
Though I have no specific skills, hopefully my experience makes me a handy person to have around.Age
