Hi, I'm Sophia!
I have travelled widely throughout my life, and I am now looking for new experiences worldwide. My professional experiences mainly cover Customer Service, Administration, Events and teaching English. I'm looking to connect with people and places, and learn new skills.

What I'm looking for is the opportunity to help out while also learning new skills. I am sporty, strong (i.e. I can lift up things and open jars), I love the outdoors and I love animals passionately. I would like to help on a boat, a ranch/farm, a cabin in the woods, a cabin/house by the sea, in an animal sanctuary, at a diving institute, language institute, etc. I'm open. And I'm also open to help others learn new skills.

I also enjoy hosts who have travelled, at least a little, who are open-minded and easy to talk to. This is an exchange, therefore please let it not just be one-sided.

I enjoy adventure and have a preference for unique experiences.

Honestly, we don't recommend hosting Sophia if you don't want to risk to suddenly be left without help.

We picked up her at Castellon train station on Saturday evening and she was supposed to stay until today (3rd July) when a long stay workawayer is joining us. So the stay was supposed to be less than 2 weeks.

On Sunday we took her to visit a… read more town in Teruel region, but on Monday she told us to leave the next weekend for personal reasons. We told her that it is a problem for us because we can't find anyone in so few time, but we said ok.

The next afternoon, her attitude helping with the kids was like "I'm here but I don't care at all" so when Lara saw Lluna full of Yogurt but Sophia not cleaning or caring about it she told her that at least she should clean Lluna. Then suddenly Sophia no longer wanted to stay and asked to leave that same afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Of course we accepted to take her to the closest city the next morning so she could take a bus back to Castellon. The rest of the Tuesday afternoon Sophia didn't help either with the kids or with anything else like cooking, tidying, cleaning. Instead she closed herself in the room and we never knew the real reason she was not feeling comfortable with us. Maybe Sophia is not accepting anyone to say how to do something, or maybe was the weather so dry and hot in summer here in Spain, or maybe the house, or maybe us, or maybe her real plan was to find a place to stay for free for few nights... I think we will never know the mistery due her lack of communication.

So at the end we have been left without help in the worst possible moment: Lara had a surgery on June so she cannot lift weight yet, June is also the time when we must fill and send the income tax return, and Igor must send the declaration of the 2nd quarter to the accountant at begining of July. So no time, no strenght, and having to deal with the kids, the business, the declarations, with no one to help us.

In the past we hosted about 30 workawayers since 2019, with stays ranging from 1 week to 8 months with an average of about 1 month stays. And this is the first time something like this happens to us. We had a couple of last minute no-shows in the past which we reported, but no one leaving after so few time and with no time for us to look for someone else. At first Sophia seemed nice but at the end have been the shortest (3 days) and most disapointing experience we had with workaway.
