Hey, I'm Asha! I'm 23 years old and currently traveling up the east coast from NSW to Queensland.

In the summer of 2023 I finished my master's degree in mechanical engineering and decided to travel before starting full-time work. I spent the beginning of this period living on small farms in Portugal and Spain, and then I returned home to road-trip and backpack within the United States. I spent a few months working as a barista in Brooklyn, NY (where I grew up!) at a popular sourdough bakery and cafe, and now I'm in Australia with the intention of extending my travels through 2025.

I've enjoyed multiple Workaway opportunities on farms and permaculture projects in Portugal, Spain, New Zealand and Australia, and I'm looking for experiences where I can continue to work on hands-on projects and meet new people. In addition to engineering-related internships (I'd love to talk about medical devices!), I've worked in farmers' markets, retail, fab labs/makerspaces, and most recently at a bakery. I'm keen on continuing to use the skills I've picked up from these various jobs in a productive way.

I love eating and cooking, reading, board games (chess and 'seven wonders' are favorites), swimming/surfing (or really, anything related to water), and generally being outdoors. I'm aiming to do more of all these activities while I travel, and if you'd like to join me, please reach out! :)

I'm happy to work on hands-on projects. I used to work at a summer camp focused on making large-scale art projects that required woodworking, welding, and the use of various power tools (think: art + STEM). Until recently, I worked at my university's makerspace where I helped students in the rapid prototyping lab realize their designs with 3D CAD packages, 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines. I'm quick to learn on mechanical-related work, so if there's related work you're interested in, I'd love to know more! My involvement in this work also extends to some small farming-related experiences, including gardening and creating structures for plant life.

I've lived on my own for the last couple of years, and I've developed a fondness for cooking (see pictures in my profile!), especially with seasonal foods and new ingredients, and I would especially love to learn more about the places I'm traveling by exchanging recipes/helping out in the kitchen.

For other housework/pet-related activities: I'm open to helping with cooking, cleaning and gardening. I enjoy spending time with kids, and would be ecstatic to hang out with (or look after) a cat. I've spent many years baby-sitting and cat-sitting.
