Hi, my name is Kerstin and I am originally from Germany, but have lived and felt at home in many countries, such as Spain, the UK, Uganda and Greece. I am a social scientist but love to change my jobs often. So I did work and volunteer in the social field (with refugees, disabled, addicts), hospitality (café and clubs), agriculture (olive harvest, animals), medical (first aid, midwife, hospital) and I always am curious to learn more.

I have an easy going, adaptable, responsible, empathetic, self sustainable personality. I love outdoors and the simple life. I am also very creative and someone who enjoys deep and honest conversations.

It was my second time to stay at Quiques cortijo in Quesada (6weeks last year and 2 weeks this year) and it will not be my last! I have found real peace, joy and friends in Quesada and its a place that has made it to my heart.
The work ranges from helping in the garden with planting, weeding, trimming trees to construction/restauration work… read more including f.ex. painting walls. I also upcycled and painted some furniture. There is room for creativity in the garden as well as in renovating the flats and houses. I have found it physically challenging at times, but that was exactly what I looked for, so deeply satisfying for me :)
I loved staying in the cortijo, an old farmhouse Spanish style! Its a very simple accommodation, not sparkling clean and not equipped with all the luxuries of modern homes and kitchens. Might be a bit of an adventure for some people! Embrace it, relax into it and get comfortable with simple living :) I stayed both in the caravan and inside the cortijo and enjoyed my days with the animals (horses, dogs, cats), the beautiful landscape (mountains and olive trees wherever you look) and SOLITUDE! A lot of calm. This is a calm place. Quique is also a real calm and chill person. Really for people who enjoy time on their own and slow down.
The little town of Quesada is up the hill and there are some opportunities to go for tapas, drinks and partying. There also are two museums. But don't expect too much. Be comfortable with slowing down and living simply. Its an adventure :)
Also, when it comes to learning the language: Very perfect! I did not speak a lot of Spanish and Quique speaks English, so that's easy. But all the other people you will meet, don't :) So in particular thanks to lovely Jose (a friend who regularly comes around the cortijo and also helps out with work) you will be able to practice Spanish.

I wanted to escape the rush, stress, noise, consumption and the general overflow of living in Germany and this place has been a blessing to me. Its an adventure, hard work, simple, calm living and very beautiful landscape. Just another little tip: visit Granada! And for sure, go hiking in the mountains (I recommend hiking for two days and sleeping in the mountains).
