hello friends

i realize hosts have a lotta profiles to peruse, so in brief :))

i was born in the usa to a family of artists, but i never felt at home in my country... i'd say i'm a europhile :) .....always wanted to live anywhere but usa! i was happiest when i was around an international crowd or when i would hear foreign languages spoken around me. i was made for the expat and volunteer life, i guess :) ....i 've traveled extensively , been to 18 countries .. and counting! currently living in ecuador , 5 years.

i enjoy time spent with animals; interspecies friendship is important to me, swimming, hiking, bicycling, sunbathing, lying under a tree, the sounds of water in a creekbed, wind in the trees, crickets, birds ..... being in silence in nature is just about the best thing in life, for me. simple pleasures.

also enjoy jigsaw puzzles, board games, classical & flute music, vibrant conversation/ exchange of perspectives, deep listening, genuine human emotional connection.

i relish talking about the " metaphysical " and the deeper causal level. im not too keen on technology, or digital pursuits.

some beings i highly esteem include: oraclegirl.org, {jacqueline fay hobbs}, teal swan, massanobu fukuoka, shere hite, dr tom cowan, andreas moritz, penelope smith, and the beauty, generosity and resillience of our mother earth's body.

on and off since 2019, i've:
volunteered at a bio/organic farm in Cahors, France, where I helped out weeding, planting, and selling at market. I was a guide at a nature park in Rethymno, Crete where I taught tourists about the native plants like the castor oil and carob tree. In Costa Rica, I fed and cleaned the living quarters of 59 chickens, walked and fed the dogs, helped prepare raw vegan meals, and tidied the house. At a farm animal sanctuary in New York, I shoveled cow dung. i rescued injured pigeons in Central Park. I fed and looked after cows, donkeys, goats , horses and injured cats at a sanctuary in bergerac, france. i also mowed the lawn, shoveled hay and mucked out the stables. in ecuador, i taught english and served as a mentor in a " move with balance" class for elders . staying in a rural village in rajasthan, india, i helped with domestic chores, laundry and weeding

i have experience as a receptionist in new york city and i have taught english online.

i painted a birdcage in costa rica and contributed to a large mural in ecuador.

i wrote and taught my own interspecies communication workshop involving " feminine science" in costa rica .

i possess both a college degree in art history and a tefl certificate to teach english.

by volunteering to write book reviews - which became quite popular - for our small english library in ecuador, i discovered that im naturally gifted at this... memoir and biography are my favorites to review.

i have an inborn knack for beautifying living spaces... just in my bones, i guess.... seem to do it unconsciously in whatever surroundings i find myself....

oddly enough, i love to speak in public! i wrote two hour-long presentations , one describing my curious encounters with insects :) .. and the other, a philosophical perspective, of an ontological bent....

Ishwar invited me on workaway and I was delighted since I had wanted to go to India. He is managing his organic farm in a rural village where no one else really knows about organic. He also cares deeply about educating children at his independent school. He loves his country and enjoys sharing it with others. He was a wonderful host, taking me to… read more the splendid Juna Mahal palace and even to a chiromancer (palm reader) which was a special request. I appreciated that.
His delightful family is warmhearted and welcoming. I spent mornings with Tajal his charming wife, who is impossibly cheerful and fun to be with . Both of them speak great English. I think Ishwar is fluent. Mornings Tajal and I did the laundry, cleaning and dishes, often ending up walking to the farm to do some weeding. Afternoons, Ishwar took me to the village on his motorbike ( very fun) or in car.

It was wonderful to experience a place so different from my own. I adore cows and seeing such gorgeous ones strolling free or sitting in the streets, with the humans circumventing them, and not hurting and killing them for food/clothing was balm to my heart and I loved every minute. You can go up to them and pet and kiss them, which I did every day! They are so gentle and wise and beautiful....

I was able to facilitate the family's learning of Reiki which was something they wanted, so I felt good about that.

One thing I realized is that Westerners are overly-sanitized due to programmed fear of their own bodies and natural processes and , nature, really. I suspected this for a long time, but being in India , eating on the ground and with my hands and using the simple toilets etc... brought my understanding to an empirical level, which was enjoyable. It is a more natural, direct, honest way of life and it is healing. It is not "dirty" as many westerners think of India.

I was happily surprised at how amazingly comfortable the bed was. It was a simple metal frame with bands of heavy-duty cotton weaved from side to side. Nothing could be simpler, and I slept so very well on them. so, again, we don't need box springs and mattresses!! There is so much we don't need... so much simpler ways to live...

The village people are beyond friendly and sweet. They immediately smile wide and want to take you into their homes. I just wish there weren't the language barrier. There is so much I wanted to say to them, but couldn't. Lovely, lovely people.

I had been warned, as a Westerner, not to go to India because many westerners get sick . I was told I couldn't drink the water. But! Ishwar has pure water from a deep well and It was fine for me. It tasted great and I felt fine. Not much fruit was producing in the season I was there (July) so I had to buy un-organic fruit from village, which was not good for me, but I knew this might happen before coming....
Thank you Ishwar, Tajal, Happy, Jashwant, Harry and friends, (cows!) for a remarkable experience which has enriched my life.
