Description
Travel is the one constant I always get excited about. I love to experience a variety of people, communities, cultures, food, work, play and places. I have been fortunate to take a few tours in some cool countries and just really loved being immersed in a completely different culture. All I can think about is when or where my next trip or experience is going to be, so I joined workway to travel full time for a while. I love learning new things, sharing knowledge, being of service and feeling the earth under my feet in new places. I feel a huge connection to Mother Earth and nature is where I heal and recenter myself. I enjoy hiking, yoga and meditation. I have a lot of administrative background for actual work, but I have lived on 8 acres before and spent time gardening and clearing trees, projects around the house, to include painting, cleaning, organizing, and I would love to be involved with any art projects. I have actually taught paint night classes before and enjoy crafts as well. I am very social and enjoy settings where I meet new people and make new connections. I am super open to learning new skills, trades, craft, and not afraid to try my hand at any handyman type things, with a little training. :) Can't wait to meet all of you!

My actual background and what I want to do are two very different things. My job history is administrative, working on computers, etc.. I worked in HR for the government for over 15 years. I also know a little bit about social media, building websites, doing business tasks, as I've started small businesses before to have as a side gig. I also have some natural artistic talent and enjoy dabbling in creative things. However, I have helped with gardening, clearing trees and making trails, taking care of grape vines, weeding, mowing, painting, and general yard work and property care. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty or trying a new skill or task. I think it's fun to create in any way!
I recently had the opportunity to bartend at weekly concerts at a winery, and I had a blast doing it! I prefer being outdoors to indoors, and love being in nature.

Thank you Maree for your nice stay here! Maree helped me with a lot of different jobs, from helping me with some small administrative jobs, socializing with our guest, picking coffee and some painting. She did an excellent job. Always happy, friendly and doing what she was asked to do and even more! So I would really recommend her!

I stayed with Aleja, Cris, and Evan for 10 days. Their profile is very accurate, and their location is very beautiful, on the mountain side, secluded and very immersed in nature. Aleja and Cris are kind and good people and they were always concerned with wether or not I was happy on their farm. If you are looking for a secluded place where you can… read more connect with nature and yourself, this is definitely the place for that! Aleja cooks breakfast and lunch for the group, and it was always delicious. Dinner is cooked as a group by you, and any other volunteers, with ingredients provided, to include fresh vegetables from the garden daily.

I will just add some notes to help you prepare more if you choose to stay with them. The work is fairly easy, some days more physically demanding than others, but never anything too difficult. During my stay some of the things I did -- building walls with mud from their land, weeding landscapes with a machete, adding nutrients to the garden, and digging holes for coffee trees.
Make sure to bring warm clothes and a jacket, we had rain about half of the nights, and for me it was quite cold in the evenings due to the elevation. I didn't quite prepare well enough for that. Washing clothes is by hand in a bucket that is shared among the group, so it's best to not plan on washing clothes that often. The cold mountain shower is quite cold, just prepare for that as well. A group of us took a day trip to Concepcion, which was really fun and a beautiful long walk, and we had lunch and coffee at some cute places. We also had Cris guide us on a tour to a tall waterfall, he provided information about the area and the history along the tour.

I had originally wanted to take Spanish lessons while I was there, as I really only speak English. Aleja told me before hand it would be up to her availability, and unfortunately there wasn't time while I was there. If you don't speak any Spanish, just be prepared that pretty much most conversations occur in Spanish, which can be helpful to learn a few words. Aleja knows a few words of English to get by, and Cris can explain things by showing you what needs to be done. Most of the information I received was from other volunteers who could translate for me and explain the basics of what was being said.

As a whole, I would definitely recommend this experience, and I enjoyed meeting Aleja, Cris, and Evan and spending time at the project.
