Greetings!
My name is Meredith, and I am 24 and a new workawayer. Some of my passions include spending time outside (backpacking, swimming, biking), singing, playing music, spending time with interesting people and exploring new places. Last winter I hiked the Camino de Santiago (Frances) which was my first time taking a trip independently. I enjoyed it so much I'm excited to embark on the next adventure, spending most of 2024 exploring New Zealand. The goal being reconnecting with the place I abruptly left during my abroad semester in 2020.
Please reach out with any interest or questions you may have, and I look forward to seeing where this workaway journey takes me!Interests

I took Mandarin Chinese since from age 12-19 so I have a solid foundation in the language. I haven't had the opportunity to practice much since I stopped taking it, but would be really excited to practice again. I spent just over a month in Spain during the Camino de Santiago, and a few weeks in Barcelona after. I got lots of opportunities to practice during that time and also have a 500+ Duolingo streak going strong (for what its worth). I am very interested in improving my Spanish competency throughout my life. I'm also a native English speaker so I would be excited to teach English if that's something thats needed.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

More details about your skills
I have worked extensively in outdoor education settings including summer camps, science camps and leading backcountry trips with children. I've worked as a preschool teacher, and canoe shack manager as well. These occupational experiences have honed my childcare, communication, outdoor leadership, interpersonal and conflict management skills. Additionally, I have done some woodworking in the past, making a canoe paddle and a trunk. The same program that allowed me to develop my woodworking skills, also granted me the opportunity to live with a homesteader for 3 weeks, helping her in the daily chores of maintaining the garden, milking goats, cooking and tanning hides (among other things).
I have also worked in the service industry, throughout college I worked at concessions at hockey games, preparing and serving food to all of the eager game watchers. My most unique job so far to date however, has been a night shift wholesale packer at a bread company. These jobs allowed me to advance my organizational skills, along with working under pressure.
Through my various occupational experiences thus far, I have become able to be flexible and work well with a variety of different people. I am very open to learning new skills and am excited by all opportunities that this site may offer. If I seem like a good fit for what you're looking for, please don't hesitate to reach out!Age

What else ...
I was in acapella groups throughout my schooling career (from middle school through college) so singing has always been a big passion of mine. I also play the ukulele and drums. Another love of mine is art, I really enjoy watercolor and sketching. I also love podcasts a lot, some of my favorites being A Slight Change of Plans, Ear Hustle, You're Wrong About, and This American Life. I've always been a big fan of boardgames as well, I enjoy Secret Hitler, Bananagrams, and various card games (I also know 1 card trick).
