  • Description

    Hey!
I'm Mónica :) I've had a love for adventure for as long as I can remember. My first big trip abroad as a kid turned into almost 2 years living abroad with my family and I believe that’s what sparked my love for travelling. From that point on, I’ve been on the lookout for the next adventure, always excited to dive into something new. Growing up in a multicultural family made me curious about the multitude of other cultures out there. I love discovering new places, meeting new people, learning about other cultures and immersing myself in their respective language(s).

I have lived abroad on 3 very different occasions for just under 4 years in total. Relocating to a new country as an exchange student was the best decision I ever made for myself. I’m hoping to create even more unforgettable experiences, this time through Workaway.

More details about my language interests
I was lucky to grow up surrounded by multiple languages both at home and out. My main motivation for learning languages has always been to communicate and connect with people. I strongly believe in language-immersion being one (if not the best) way to learn a language. I have been learning Italian on and off for a couple of years. I can understand it fairly well. I have experience as a French and English tutor for both natives and non-natives.

  • More details about your skills

I have a background in Visual Arts and Film Animation. I consider myself a fast-learner and a very resourceful, organized and detail-oriented individual. I’d also say I am a jack of all trades, but I especially enjoy working on hands-on projects. Through my arts program, I have learned how to use a variety of tools, especially for woodworking. I have also been my dad's official helper on house renovations.

Technology comes naturally to me. I know how to use multiple softwares and have experience in film editing, communications (social media, public outreach, distribution) and website creation. I also have been a French and English tutor for both natives and non-natives as well as an art workshop organizer and animator for kids, teens and adults on multiple occasions. I love spending time with children!

  • What else ...

Other than travel, languages and arts, music has a huge part of my heart. Learning how to play a song on an instrument is so satisfying to me. I am self-taught and play for fun. Sports that give you an exciting thrill tend to be my favorite but I also enjoy some quiet time to draw, write or read a good book.

Experiencing first-hand how differently a language I speak can be spoken elsewhere, I have developed a special interest in linguistics. It has made me realize languages really say a lot about people and their cultures. It shapes our perception of the world.
