  • Description

Something that has always brought me a lot of happiness is experiencing nature, whether it be hiking, swimming, camping, running or various other outdoor activities. I am motivated by helping others through volunteering, teaching and building relationships in my workplace, friendships and community. I grew up on a farm so I had a unique upbringing where we were connected to the land we lived on. We had lots of animals and a large garden which is where I originally fell in love with animals and gardening, in my everyday life now, I try to find different ways to connect to this feeling.

More details about my language interests
I have been teaching English at a school in Barcelona using art projects to teaching various English vocabulary and phrases. I have loved being creative in how students learn the language through an experiential and creative outlet where they use materials and create hands on projects that also teaches them English.I have also been in the process of learning Spanish since I moved to Spain in September. This has been a challenging process and I am always looking for ways to learn the language. I dedicate a lot of my time to reading, listening and doing Spanish grammar activities. I also try to practice my Spanish speaking as often as I can whether it's with my roommates, co-workers or people in my community.

  • More details about your skills

I have various skills related to care-taking of children, animals and farming. I have over 10 years of experience working with children and teens through coaching, teaching and volunteering. I have always been around animals since I was a young child and feel very comfortable with farm animals such as horses, cows, goats, dogs and chickens. Since growing up on a farm where we had a large garden, I have tried to stay connected to this by keeping a small army of house plants that I can (mostly) keep alive.
I have been teaching English for the past year in Barcelona, Spain and have been responsible for creating art activities that have an English speaking or writing element. This has encouraged me to be creative in the activities I come up with in order to engage my students while also learning English.
I have been dog walking and pet sitting for the past 7 years and I feel very comfortable with animal care-taking and following care instructions. I have some experience in training dogs to walk and teaching them basic commands. Every time I visit home I spend time on my small family farm helping to take care of our animals.

  • What else ...

I have always really enjoyed traveling and learning about new places. I have traveled a lot throughout the US; after growing up on the western side of the country I decided to road trip across the country and live in North Carolina. After living there for two years I made the decision to fulfill my dream of living abroad. I moved to Barcelona, Spain last September and have been teaching English here for the past 7 months. I think it's important to learn how to travel and be able to build a life for yourself in a new and unfamiliar city.
Not only do I enjoy traveling and lots of outdoor activities but I also enjoy reading, cooking and learning new hobbies. I have taught myself how to embroider, sew, sculpt and love to draw and paint. I will never back down from a competitive game of soccer, basketball or any kind of board game. I love learning new skills and games from others as it is such an excellent creative and athletic outlet.
