About Me
I bring a wealth of hands-on experience in maintenance, construction, and customer-facing roles, making me a versatile and reliable Workaway volunteer.
Maintenance & Hospitality
I’ve worked extensively in hotel and Airbnb maintenance in Mexico, with references available on my profile. This experience honed my problem-solving skills and ability to manage repairs efficiently and professionally.
Animal Care & Farm Work
During a previous Workaway stay at an alpaca farm in Germany, I contributed to the construction of gates, fences, and bridges, as well as assisted with general animal care. This experience gave me a strong appreciation for rural life and teamwork in a farm setting.
Renovation & DIY Expertise
Over the years, I’ve completed numerous home renovation projects. My skills include:
Plumbing & Electrical Work: Handling basic installations and repairs.
Painting & Decorating: Proficient in interior and exterior painting, floorboard restoration, and decorative finishes.
Patio Construction: Experience with slab laying, small concrete pours, brickwork, and blockwork.
Carpentry: Crafting fitted cupboards, shelves, tables, chairs, and benches, with proficiency in woodworking tools and techniques.
Metalwork: Some experience in welding and small metal projects.
Gardening & Landscaping
Gardening and landscaping have been lifelong passions. I enjoy creating and maintaining outdoor spaces, from planting and pruning to designing and constructing garden features.
Customer Service & Bar Work
My recent work involved extensive client interaction, which strengthened my communication and interpersonal skills. I’m adept at thinking on my feet and using initiative to resolve challenges.
Additionally, I have bar experience from running a wedding venue bar in the UK, catering to up to 180 guests.

I have been involved in many home renovation projects. This includes basic plumbing and electrical work.
I have a lot of experience in painting and decorating, including floorboard restoration. I have knowledge of slab laying for patios as well as small concrete pours, brick and block work.
I have built fitted cupboards, shelves, tables, chairs, benches etc. and so consider myself to be very proficient in carpentry. I also have some experience with metal work.
Gardening and landscaping are also activities that I have enjoyed doing for as long as I can remember.
My most recent work experience has required me to spend a lot of time working with clients which has given me excellent communication and interpersonal skills. I had to think on my feet and use initiative on a daily basis.
I also have bar experience having worked at a wedding venue in the UK where I ran the bar for up to 180 guests at a time.

Each day, I worked on different tasks, mostly fixing and building things. The guys I lived and worked with completely enhanced the experience. They were incredibly friendly and made me feel at home.

Dermot was very clear about his objectives and what he wanted me and the other volunteers to achieve whilst we were there.
Throughout my time, I was staying in my own apartment with a double bed, private bathroom, and kitchen – this was excellent!
