Hello!
I'm Ruairi, I've just finished school and am taking a gap year before starting university in September! I love to travel and work outdoors, discover new cultures and learn new languages.
My hobbies include hiking and hostelling around Scotland, cooking and eating out, reading, listening to music, going to the gym and learning new languages.
I have never used Workaway before, or experienced the kind of travel that it offers but I always like to try new things. The experiences it can offer seem amazing!

I have studied French for a few years at school and have a Scottish Higher qualification at grade A. I love the language and would be eager to improve. In the past couple of months I've also completed beginner courses in Spanish and Russian. I don't have very much of a knowledge at all of these languages but the courses have given me confidence in speaking and (attempting!) conversations in foreign languages.

- Experience of hard outdoor work and gardening:
I regularly help my elderly Granny (who is the main authority for the garden!) with planting and weeding, repotting, cutting back overgrown areas. I'm very tall so can reach high branches!
- Experience of volunteering:
Have worked for a local river conservation charity for over a year, helping run the visitor centre which is their main source of revenue. Experience educating people on the river environment and giving directions for walks.
- Love of the outdoors:
I was a scout for over 10 years, took part in many camps and long distance hikes in my local hills, attended an international camp in the Swiss Alps in 2023.
- Reliable team player:
I recently finished working as a retail sales assistant over the very busy Christmas period. I'm always eager to help people and do the best job I can. Always on time and available when needed!
- Music:
I can play the cornet and was part of two bands while I was in school.
- Moderate knowledge of French
