Hi! My name is Sara. I’m a joyful and easygoing person. I like finding delight in simple things and being open to the world and new perspectives. I grew up in Canada and Taiwan, and my family also has roots in England and Switzerland. I now live in and love Ottawa, but I feel at home in any atmosphere where there is diversity and desire for connection. At our home you’ll usually find us hosting friends or friends of friends or family from all over!

I love to draw, paint, garden, bake and cook, but most of my working hours I’ve spent as a designer and researcher. I’m excited to step away from a computer for a while.

I love lots of alone time in nature (I love long long walks and bike rides no matter the weather) but I care deeply about the people in my life and value social connections and the vibrancy they bring to life!

I’m currently planning a trip to Taiwan and then to France. My French is alright but I’ll be grateful for more opportunities to speak it with others to improve. I’m excited to learn new skills, contribute in any way I can, and be exposed to new things! And I’m looking forward to sharing meals and stories.

I have spent time learning and practicing the following but I always will have a lot more to learn: vegetable gardening (including organic), simple house maintenance (e.g. interior painting, sanding and installing doors, general cleaning, climbing onto roofs, etc.), baking, cooking, petsitting (dogs and cats).

I have experience teaching Human-Centred Design in a postgraduate college program, teaching at an English camp for kids in Taiwan, and volunteering with kids with special needs.

As a designer I ran my own freelance studio, worked for a small firm and for government, and have skills in communicating, building long-lasting working relationships and bridging perspectives. I also have experience as a videographer and photographer (e.g. weddings and events) but my computer use these days is limited!
