  • Description

Hi, my name is Veronika and I currently study at Michigan University as an exchange student from Czechia. After this program, I’m planning to spend a month and a half volunteering in Canada. Working with my hands, being outside, and doing something that has a direct, visible impact makes sense to me. I've done some projects before – in Spain, Iceland, France, and Costa Rica – and I’ve learned that I don’t need perfect conditions or comfort to feel good about what I’m doing. I need honesty, purpose, and something to work on. I care about the environment, but I’m not interested in preaching or big slogans. I’d rather be part of something small that actually works – planting, building, fixing, growing. I like learning by doing, and I don't mind getting dirty or tired. I’ve done physical work in different climates, languages, and setups, so I know how to adapt and get on with people.

Over the past few years, I’ve taken part in several international volunteer programs focused on environmental protection and hands-on conservation work. My tasks have included everything from cleaning beaches and hiking paths, removing invasive plant species, and helping protect native ecosystems, to assisting rangers in national parks.

In France, I worked on the restoration of the facade of the Saint-André Chapel in Pignans, which gave me some experience with basic renovation work. On other projects, I’ve been involved in marine mammal monitoring, audio-visual wildlife tracking with photo traps, field patrolling, and even fire prevention activities. I also helped with educational outreach, creating materials about nature protection for park visitors.

I’m used to working outside, often in changing or tough conditions, and I enjoy learning new practical skills on the go. I don’t mind repetitive tasks and I know how to be reliable, independent, but also how to follow instructions when needed. Most importantly, I care about the work and I take it seriously.

  • What else ...

I love Latin dance and I try to find local dance communities wherever I go. I’m also into backpacking and low-budget traveling, which has taught me to be flexible, creative, and resourceful in new situations. I enjoy getting to know places slowly and simply, preferably on foot and with a good map. These experiences often lead me to unexpected conversations, beautiful spots, and the kind of memories that stick. I also love taking pictures, especially on film camera.
