In Icelandic we have the expression "vei" when something is really fun , something we can shout out in the midst of the fun experience. Wei Wei was double "vei" as good as it can be! We loved her from the first moment. She blended in perfectly and was everything we hoped for and more. She was very effective with everything she did. She was great
… read more with the baby and all the other family members. She is very organized, helpful, fun, super smart and considerate. We also enjoyed her baking a lot -and some of us even enjoyed it to much and gained some kilograms:) :) Having her around was always enjoyable and helpful. She is simply amazing and we really hope she will return to Iceland one day.

First off, this isn’t your typical Icelandic household – it is ‘chaotic’ with so much happening all the time, and everyday is full of surprises. I met almost everyone in the family on my first day, which was a bit overwhelming, but I quickly realised that’s just their normal day-to-day life😆
My main task was babysitting Villi in the mornings,
… read more with some occasional babysitting at the eldest daughter’s. None of them ever felt like work. I see myself as one of the family (and the baby’s third mom 😆) and just help out as I see fit. They also have the cutest (and sneakiest) Icelandic sheepdog Þula!! Taking her for walks wasn’t part of my duties, but I loved doing it anyway because I really enjoyed spending time with her ❤️ plus, hiking with Þula was a blast – she turns heads everywhere and makes you the centre of attention.
I was lucky enough to join them on a trip to Akureyri, which was an absolute highlight! They also took me on some amazing weekend tours, and I really appreciate them showing me the best of Iceland. I also clicked really well with the sisters, Elín & Magga, and loved every moment we spent together – whether it was cooking, hiking, working out, or watching TV shows. Oh, and their band Moogiboog is the coolest! I’m very lucky to have attended some of their concerts.
The whole family speaks fluent English -something I really appreciate as it makes me feel so included. They’re also very knowledgeable about different cultures –Gugga & Snorri have lived in Boston, and the sisters have travelled to Asia and even know so much about the Chinese language and culture! One of the really hygge moments was Magga & I singing Chinese songs together –something I definitely did not expect from an Icelandic!!
The house is never quiet – it’s always filled with music, Elín’s opera singing, kids playing, and so much laughter. They call themselves a chaotic Icelandic family, but that’s exactly what made them so special. I felt so at home with them, and just being around them made me happy. This family has my whole heart, and I miss them everyday since I left ❤️ I really hope I get to visit them again in the future. Wishing them all health and happiness until we meet again 🫶

Simon was a wonderful workawayer. Very pleasant to have around in the house and extremely helpful with everything. His biggest hit was the delicious Black forest fruit cake he made for us- !!! We all loved Simon and wish him all the best on his future travels. He is highly reccomended!!!
