  Hi, I'm Nacho and this is the 12th summer hosting volunteers in our house. I've already lived in Italy for a long time producing cheese and goat products, beekeeping, permaculture, etc. Now we are trying this process in Spain, in some Pasiega huts in Espinosa de los Monteros (Burgos). We have rebuilt the house using mud, straw, lime and earth techniques. We have also created a vegetable garden using permaculture techniques.
  
  Here we carry out certain tasks that have to do with self-subsistence, production of bread with our own flour made with old wheat and spelt that we have been recovering for some years now. Honey and its derivatives: propolis, virgin wax, natural creams, mead, etc. We are also very much involved in the transformation of self-produced food or food collected in the forest: jams, preserves, drying of fruits and mushrooms, production of elderflower wine or honey, etc. .
  
  This year 2025 we have had a baby and .... This is what we need help with. People with physical strength and willingness to work outside to help us with firewood and other maintenance works.
  
  We will also continue to work at home, always using natural or recycled materials, and we must always take care of the animals (dogs, horses, cats, etc...) There is a lot to do and a lot to learn, so.... well, cheer up!
  
  As we are at 1000 metres above sea level, we do not recommend the colder months (December-March).
  
  We have had people from all over the world come here... if you want, you can contact us to give you references of volunteers you can talk to so they can tell you what it is like to live in the Cantabrian Mountains trying to be self-sufficient!

  Hola! Soy Nacho y este es el 12 verano recibiendo voluntarios en nuestra casa. Ya he vivido en Italia mucho tiempo produciendo quesos y productos de cabra, apicultura, permacultura, etc. Ahora estamos intentando este proceso en España, en unas cabañas pasiegas en Espinosa de los Monteros (Burgos). Hemos reconstruido la casa mediante técnicas en barro, paja, cal y tierra. También la realización de un huerto con técnicas de permacultura.
  
  Aquí realizamos ciertas labores que tiene que ver con la autosubsistencia .,.producción de pan con nuestras propias harinas hechas con trigos y espeltas antiguas que llevamos ya algunos años recuperando. Miel y derivados: propóleos, cera virgen, cremas naturales, hidromiel, etc. También nos ocupamos muchísimo de la transformación de alimentos auto-producidos o recolectados en el bosque: mermeladas, conservas, secado de frutos y setas, producción de vino de saúco o miel. .
  
  Este año 2025 hemos tenido un bebé y.... Para esto es para lo que necesitamos ayuda. Gente con fuerza física y ganas de trabajar al exterior que nos eche una mano con hacer la leña y otros trabajos de mantenimiento.
  
  También seguiremos con los trabajos en casa siempre utilizando materiales naturales o reciclados, y siempre hay que cuidar a los animalitos (perritos, caballos, gatos, etc..) Hay mucho que hacer y mucho que aprender, así que... bueno, animo!
  
  Como estamos a 1000 metros de altura, no aconsejamos los meses mas fríos (diciembre-marzo).
  
  Aquí han venido chic@s de todos los países... si queréis, podéis contactarnos para daros referencias de voluntarios con quienes podáis hablar para que os cuenten como se vive en la Cordillera Cantábrica intentando ser autosuficientes!

  The house is quite isolated, which is:
  - isolated houses nearby
  - 1 km to the first group of houses, with 2 bars
  - 5 km to the nearest village with shops and services
  
  During the time off, the volunteers can enjoy a pure natural environment with outdoor activities (the sea is only at one and a half hour by car or bus) or spending their time in the accommodation with indoor activities, respecting our moment of privacy.

  La cabaña esta bastante aislada, quiere decir:
  - hay mas cabañas aisladas alrededor
  - 1 km hasta la aldea con 2 bares y un punto internet (pero nada mas!)
  - 5 km hasta el pueblo con tiendas, bancos y todos los servicios
  
  En las horas y los días libres, podéis disfrutar al máximo de un entorno súper natural, haciendo actividades a el aire libre (las que sean: pasear, jugar, tocar, cantar, leer, etc..).. el mar solo esta a una hora y media en coche o en bus.
  En los días malos, podemos disfrutar de nuestra reciproca compañía, pero siempre respetando nuestros espacios de privacidad!

  Ayuda

  The volunteers will be asked:
  - To maintain the vegetable garden
  - To look after and to feed the animals (horses, dogs and cats)
  - To help us proceeding with the restoration of the house using natural materials
  - To give their contribution with the cleaning of the house (obviously only the common spaces!) and the land (1 hectare)
  - … and many other things which will be agreed before their arrival

  Os pediremos de:
  - ayudarnos en la huerta
  - cuidar a los animalitos (caballos, perros, gatos, etc..
  - echarnos una mano con el proceso de bio-construccion de algunas partes de la cabaña
  - contribuir en los trabajos diarios de la casa como la limpieza de las áreas comunes
  - … y mas cosas de las que iremos hablando antes de vuestra llegada

  The accommodation will be in a shared campervan or in a tent according to the time of the year and to the number of volunteers. This will be previously talked of course.

  El alojamiento será en una autocaravana al lado de la cabaña o si hay muchos voluntarios como en años anteriores... pues también en tienda de campaña al lado del rió donde nos podemos bañar en aguas cristalinas.

  How to get here:
  - by car: easy access up to the destination. From Espinosa de los Monteros, you have to follow the signs to Las Machorras. Before arriving to the village, you will find a road on the right (signs to Arredondo - Portillo La Sia) at 500 meters (more or less) - right after a cabaña with green tables - on the left, you will find a little road at the end of which.. you will be arrived!
  - by plane: to Bilbao or Santander and then by train or bus
  - by train: from Bilbao, check out the daily train to Espinosa de Los Monteros here
  - by bus: from Bilbao or from Burgos, check out the buses to Espinosa de Los Monteros here

  Como llegar:
  - en coche: fácil acceso hasta la cabaña. Buscad en el mapa donde esta Espinosa de los Monteros. Desde allí, se coge la carretera hacia Las Machorras y, antes de llegar al pueblo, se coge la carretera para el Portillo de la Sia/Arredondo. En el km 0,5 (mas o menos) - despues de una cabaña con tablas verdes - a la izq. sube un camino donde vereis que hay vida!!
  - en avión: hasta Bilbao o Santander y luego en autobús o tren
  - en tren: desde Bilbao, hay un tren diario para Espinosa de Los Monteros:
  - en autobús: desde Bilbao o Burgos, hay autobuses para Crucero de Montija o Espinosa de Los Monteros:
