Hi I'm Frances, a British woman living in a beautiful farmhouse with land and forest, near the lakes in the Triglav National Park in Slovenia. I've got two old cars a 1987 Volvo and a 1989 Landrover. They need LOVE! ... Interior, bodywork and small stuff that doesn't work. They work but things are always falling off and they look well kind of a mess! You'll work in the shade, and have access to barn as a workshop. I love my cars and want to them to be great again! I love to swim in the lake and river each day, or go stand up paddle boarding with my dog on the lake and you are welcome to join. There is also lots of mountain hiking. I live with a dog 12 chickens and 3 cats, and often BnB guests in a separate part of the house.

You'll experience living a quiet pace of life, in nature, semi off grid, getting eggs from my chickens. You will also get to see the best local swim spots at the river and the lake and the good (non tourist) local bars and eateries. And if you want to experience hiking in Slovenia Triglav National Park mountains. I'm a native English speaker so I'm happy to help anyone with practising their English.

Both my cars are working but they are a mess inside and out and little things don't work! Especially the Landrover would benefit from endless fun tinkering. These things are too little for local mechanics to want to do and no one around here wants to do bodywork!
I am fairly capable but tinkering with cars, well I dont find it as interesting as I know some people do! This would be ideal for an enthusiast of old cars , someone who is resourceful, a problem solver, a fixer, and creative in that fixing! The cars are in the shade of a big pear tree and the barn (which can be used as a workshop) is nearby.
You won't be able to look to me for guidance as you will be the expert here.
As a break from car stuff there is always other stuff to do... lime rendering and stonework and landscaping and general fixing things and land maintenance. You won't get bored and we can play to your strengths.

If there are no tourist guests in the downstairs apartment you will stay in the apartment which has a 5 start rating online ... a lovely large double bedroom room , en suite bathroom.
If the apartment is occupied with tourists (which is most of the summer) , then the option is to share the upstairs apartment with me, which is where I live, which is also lovely with fantastic views. There is a mezzanine loft style guest bedroom (with restricted headroom). It has a fence around it but it doesn't have solid walls. So it's visually private but it is not sound private if you see what I mean.

You can walk/ hike in any direction and it's gorgeous! There are waterfalls rivers and mountains! But I imagine you'd like to spend most of your time enjoying the lakes. (Bled and Bohinj). I have a SUP you can borrow (which takes two people!) And I have a car you can borrow. But you can also come with me and we can do stuff together.... I go to either the lake or river or sometimes both every day. Public transport is only a few times a day to my village and shops are 15 minutes drive by car away. There is a local bar in the summer which is lovely and it also does traditional Slovenian food.

The internet connection is slow. You can stream a movie in SD but uploading large files takes a long time.

I had a fantastic Workaway experience with Frances, and I highly recommend taking the opportunity to stay with her if it's possible.

Oh and by the way... Max is BRILLIANT!
He built a small traditional looking wooden roof for a pump
He mended and painted garden furnture.
He's very handy and knows his way around DIY tools.

Lauren and Laurien were super. They got stuck into anything I asked them to do and learnt new skills fast! They made a beautiful job of lime rendering the side of the barn, Lauren got totally in the zone and repointed the stonework to look beautiful. Our stay with Frances was wonderful, she is a great host and we really enjoyed our time there.
