  • Descripción

Hello, my name is Gijs (20 years old), and I live on the border of the Netherlands and Germany, but then just 3 meters on the German side. I live there with my younger brother and sister on a small farm with my parents. I’m an active and fit guy who enjoys adventure and doesn’t like sitting still for too long. I love socializing and having a good conversation every now and then. While I enjoy the lively city life, I truly feel at home when I’m surrounded by peace and nature or engaging in outdoor activities away from the city.

Last summer, I graduated from high school (VWO) and plan to study Civil Engineering in the Netherlands next year. But, before starting my studies, I want to explore what the world—and life in general—has to offer. This past summer, I got a taste of it when I spent two months traveling across Europe by train. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to postpone my studies for a year to go on more adventures and gain new experiences. New Zealand has been on my mind for several years, and it seems to me like a beautiful country to explore. I believe I can learn a lot there, and then not just about the country but also about myself.

I’m spending six months traveling through New Zealand, from north to south, using the work and travel method. I got the idea because we’ve had work and travelers on our farm at home before. I think it’s a great way to travel, as it gives you real insight into what daily life in another country is like.
Now, I’m a work and traveler myself, and I’m very excited to see how life unfolds in different places.

  • Que habilidades tienes?

    - I am a builder/construction worker and, together with my father and his company, we have built various types of sheds and buildings, ranging from a garage to a horse stable to a garden house.
    - I also work at an outdoor market as a bread and pastry seller (our stall is called "the rising bakery";), and I’m good at interacting with all kinds of people.
    - I handle all-around tasks on our farm and have also worked for a while as a gardener/all-rounder at a campsite.
    - And the last thing that might be useful to mention is that I sometimes help my little brother with his first years of secondary school (mainly with math, but also with other subjects).
