It was a pleasure to have Jan with us! He is an amazing person with a lot of experience in life and building/maintenance. He has a lot of energy despite his age. He is a good spirited person as well! I would recommend him to anyone. In fact, he is currently helping out setting up a campground for a major event, on my recommendation. Jim
Great to work on the farm. The farm is located in the middle of a large forest area on the edge of Mt. Hood National Park. We stayed at the farm for a few weeks and wished we could have stayed longer. We felt right at home and welcomed from day 1. We also helped with the beautiful fence around the garden using tree trunks/branches from the farm itself. We also helped with some general garden/compost/weeding in preparations for the spring. You can tell Jim and Britta have a love of people and nature as they have created a beautiful haven for anyone wanting to disconnect and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We had ample time to enjoy the trails on the property, local hikes, as well as skiing at the nearby Mt. Hood Meadows! We also really enjoyed connecting with other workawayers as well as the lovely guests on site. We made lifelong friends (especially after not seeing many people after the pandemic) ---we all respected covid guidelines on the property to keep each other safe. Volunteering at Jim's organic garden was a fantastic experience. After arriving I felt like I became part of the family and learned a lot from Jim as well as the garden managers. It was such a wonderful opportunity to work at the Farm for the month I was there. Right from the beginning Jim, the farm owner, was very nice and helpful and went out of his way to accommodate; he picked me up while passing through Portland. Once I arrived I was greeted by the lovely farm managers, Michael and Karlee, and had a delicious meal!

The farm work is on the 15 acre garden (so beautiful!) that is surrounded by a wonderful forest. I did all sorts of work and learned a lot in that garden and surrounding area. I helped build the crop beds, repair the fence, plant many crops (kale, spinach, radish, peas, potatoes, lettuce, chard, tomatoes, and more!), I also helped repair the greenhouse, do the compost, clear and grade the trails, chop fire wood, and lots of other stuff I'm probably forgetting.
It was such a great time and I learned so much that I highly recommend this farm. WorkAway here if you can! Good luck!

This is my first workaway experience and I couldn't have expected a better one! Jim, the owner, Karlee and Michael, the resident managers, are all exceptionally kind, genuine and generous people. They really treat me and other workawayers like families the moment they meet us.
During my four weeks at the farm, I have worked on various gardening
… read more projects (planting, weeding, harvesting, pruning, making compost etc.), trail making, and event preparation. Karlee and Michael did a great job in keeping the tasks varied and fun. I left feeling more confident with my basic farming skills as well as feeling I have made some really good long-term friends.
The farm is located right by the Mt Hood national forest, with a year-long creek running through and some beautiful old-growth trees on the land itself. It is a serene setting to work, read and relax. And there are tons of great hiking and biking trails nearby to explore.
I would recommend this farm to any workawayers who are interested in exploring the Oregon area, meeting good people, and learning about organic farming.

… read more piping down for the beds, planted, seeded, thinned, and organized on how Jim wanted things! We also learned about road maintenance, yurt maintenance, and other activities.
There is plenty of free time to explore the hikes in the surrounding area. A local bus which is affordable can take you up the mountain for more hiking, snowboarding, or skiing. And if you like to grab some food or drinks Skyway is the place for that as they have live music every weekend! Portland is not far either which you can stay at Jim's hostel. Its a beautiful hostel and I enjoyed my stay when I visited.
It was a great Workaway and I hope you all have an amazing summer, I'll be in touch with Marc over the months to see what is growing as I am excited for development but, won't be there to see it

… read more well explained. Most work was done as a team- lots of time to share stories and listen to great music and the birds. They are very open to ideas and people working on projects they come up with as long as they see it appropriate. I was very impressed by the organization and thoroughness put into each project and daily task. The food is incredible! Everyone takes turns cooking (the prep is already done) and each meal is family style where everyone sits together.
Jim and Britta (farm/hostel owners) and their beautiful children were not at the farm very much due to school still being in session and hostel work. When they did come up it was always a treat! Jim is an incredible carpenter- I had the pleasure of working with him and learning new skills.
Weekends are free for you to do as you wish. There are lots of hikes in the area and places to explore. Walking or biking (they have bikes!) to town is easy. There is not much in town, but it's nice to go every once in a while. Getting to Portland is a bit of an adventure with the busses but is doable (I went to the city 2 times in my month stay). The Hostel that Jim and Britta run is awesome, being able to stay there and meet other travelers while seeing Portland was really fun.
