    Description

**Update January 2025** We are seeking a capable and responsible person or couple to commit to a 6-month stay for the coming season, April-October and fulfill a property caretaker role in exchange for accommodations. The ideal applicant(s) for this position have construction experience and skills, a passion for gardening, knowledge of off grid systems and/or desire to learn. Other important characteristics include being self-directed, having an easygoing nature, and comfort with children.

    ABOUT THE LAND AND PEOPLE
Our 40-acre off-grid homestead is nestled way up in the Cascade mountains outside of the Rogue River Valley in Southern Oregon. We offer wilderness skills education including multi-day gatherings and summer camps on the land in the summer. There are multiple earth-based dwellings, a cob cabin, and two houses. We have a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, outdoor solar shower, and composting toilets on the land. We also have a communal/guest house that has two bathrooms and a full kitchen and may be available as an accommodation for the right couple or family. All of our water is spring-fed from a mountain spring in our valley. There is a year-round creek that runs through the land with a swimming hole in the summer and endless forest wilderness around us to explore. *We do get snow in the winter so be prepared for snow if you come in the winter or spring!* All of our electricity is solar and hydro-electric, so depending on the weather there can be limited electricity.

We are a family in our mid-thirties with two children focused on living close to the earth and seasonal rhythms, growing food, and tending the land around us. We are nature educators and passionate about ancestral arts and skills. The number of other people staying here ebbs and flows.

We have two boys, ages 9 and 6, so being comfortable with children is a must. We are open to other children staying here! We are a low-technology, low-media household that focuses on nature connection and creative play for our children.

    WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
People do well here who love spending time in nature! The nearest town is 40 minutes away. We are looking for self-directed folks who love to socialize but can also be independent and enjoy the quiet and solitude that the mountains have to offer. Our family life can be busy with young children, family obligations, and work off the property, so we are hoping to find community members who want to help keep the garden well-tended and the land clean and orderly. Especially before we host events, there is a lot of landscaping, mulching of pathways, etc. to get the land feeling ready so if you love to work outside, have an eye for detail, and a desire to leave places more beautiful than you found them, then this position is a good fit for you.

Our busy season on the land is April-July. We ask for 2 days of help/week. Tasks may include basic building projects, garden maintenance, and general land tending. Most of the time this work will be a collaborative effort with others on the land. Paid work may be available during our busier months, especially April and early May, depending on experience.

NO PETS PLEASE. We have plenty of animals on the land including two very large Pyrenees mix guardian dogs, a cat, a pig, and assorted chickens.

**Personal vehicle is required. We are a remote location and cannot be responsible for everyone’s town trips. From November-April, a 4WD vehicle is required**

Southern Oregon is a beautiful and very biodiverse region with lots of different areas to explore! For those looking for local urban cultural experiences to explore on the weekends, Ashland is about 1.5 hours away, Eugene is about 2 hours, and Portland is about 4.5 hours from here. For those looking for more wilderness adventures, there are national forests, hot springs, beautiful rivers, and the Oregon Coast all within a couple hours' drive.

We strive to live a simple, slow, happy life here with open hearts and minds. We enjoy spending time exploring the forest around us, sitting around fires in the evening, and sharing meals with friends. We eat organic food, try our best to tread lightly on the earth by consuming less and supporting our local community when possible. We homeschool our children and value having people around who aren't too focused on mainstream culture, media, technology, etc. and instead can model purposeful, passionate, respectful lifestyles. We have small children and are sensitive to the big influence that anyone living here naturally has on their environment.
