Join our family-run inn & guesthouse on Ojika Island, Nagasaki Prefecture
Hi! My name is Taiyo, and I live on the beautiful island of Ojika in Nagasaki, together with my wife, two sons, and three daughters.
Ojika is a small island with a population of around 2,000 people. It’s located about 3 hours by ferry from Sasebo, or 5 hours from Fukuoka. The island is known for its stunning beaches, peaceful nature, and warm-hearted community.
I run a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan) and guesthouse, and we’re looking for helpers to support us with daily tasks—but also to share your creativity, passion, and ideas!
Whether you’re into photography, cooking, art, videography, or simply love working with people, we’d love to welcome you and collaborate to make something wonderful together.

🧹 Tasks You Might Help With
We’ll ask for help with a few of the following:
• Cleaning guest rooms and common spaces
• Preparing and serving meals, cleaning dishes
• Taking photos and writing for social media (Instagram/Facebook/blog)
• Assisting in the kitchen (meal prep)
• Gardening, farming, weeding, light digging
• Filming/editing videos (YouTube or PR)
• Minor DIY/renovation work on traditional houses
• General help like fixing bicycles or running errands

• A shared house just for Workawayers (private or shared room)

💰 Payment & Work Conditions
• We offer hourly pay (at least the minimum wage set by Nagasaki Prefecture)
• Accommodation and meals are provided free of charge
• Working hours: about 4–6 hours/day, 5 days/week (flexible)
• Minimum stay: 2 weeks (extensions welcome!)

⚠️ You must hold a valid visa that allows you to work in Japan.
We can accept:
• Working Holiday Visa
• Student Visa (with permission for part-time work)
• Spouse/Dependent Visa
Unfortunately, tourist visas are not permitted for this Workaway due to Japanese labor laws.

• From Hakata Port (Fukuoka): Night ferry departs at 11:45 PM
• From Sasebo Port (Nagasaki): Day ferries depart at 10:40 AM and 5:00 PM

This was my first workaway experience and it was amazing ! Taiyo is such a nice host ! And so is his family ! They always care about us and make us feel as home. The work is not hard at all so you have time to go around this very peaceful and beautiful island ! I hardly recommend this host !

The absolute best place to start your work away experience! Taiyo and his family are so friendly and welcoming they become the Ojika family you've always wanted. The cultural immersion is surreal as you not only chat with guests from all over Japan but get to meet and hang out with the Ojika locals as well.

Rustam did fantastic job and help our inn. He was really hard working whatever I asked a favor to do he did everything. He ate everything and cooked us nice meal. It was not busy in winter but he did enjoy his time and talked us in Ojika island. He is smart man and can do everything!
