… read more focused on the garden, so we did a lot of gardening, built fences, cooked and cleaned. But it didn't feel like work at all. It felt like helping out a friend and enjoying eachothers company. We will always remember all these moments and are grateful for this experience. If you get the chance to join them, do it! Marcus! The best anyone could ask for.
Marcus stayed with us for 2 months. He is a true British gentleman and I loved every second of his accent.
He has a heart made of sugar and a mind so lovely you could cry.
He worked his bum off and we laughed, I think, every 20 seconds.

I loved each moment with Marcus. He brought me tea every 10 minutes and did things for me which I couldn't do.

I was here for two months and would do it again a thousand times over! Jen and Fin have a wonderfully vibrant and artistic house which is situated in an epic-looking valley with lots of sheep (one of whom I befriended - hi Nell!) It’s a naturalist’s paradise with deer, wild goats, ancient oak forests, craggy mountains, marshes, rivers and lakes -
… read more but, I digress. Walking through the property, one can tell a lot of love and passion have gone into the restoration of their home and garden, and I am grateful I could be a very small part of it.
Jen and Fin are so easygoing, friendly and funny and we had good times together. They were very sensitive and caring as well and I really appreciate that in people. Their hosting was exceptional, and I felt instantly at ease as soon as I entered their front door. I could be myself, and the positive energy of the place facilitated that. I also met two wonderful Workawayers, Jen and Fin’s father, Jerry, and numerous acquaintances who all kept me on my toes and made the experience thoroughly enjoyable and interesting.
I will miss the craic (as the Irish say), but I will carry the memories with me and think fondly of this small corner of the world. Essentially, the whole experience was surreal, but my venture cannot be adequately described in words: perhaps it’s best left to the imagination, as that is what prompts people to travel in the first place.
Thank you Jen and Fin - it was quite an adventure and you gave me an unforgettable life & learning experience!
Perhaps this is a long review, but this place warrants it.

I finished my trip in Irlande in this beautiful place, I was supposed to stay a month but at the end I stayed 2 months haha ! I started my trip in Ireland in this workaway. And what a great way to start a journey ! I was suppose to stay for a month but found myself staying 2 weeks more than expected to enjoy this place a bit more.

Jen and her family (Fin and Jerry) are very kind and it was always a pleasure to discuss with them. Jen is also a really good cook so don't worry if you are not vegetarian, you are going to enjoy every each meal.

Thank you very much Jen ! my experience in the black valley was wonderful, Jen and his brother Fin live in the confortable remote house in the middle of the natural parc of Killarney. In middle of higher mountains in Ireland with sheeps and black goat ;) They are welcoming, kindly, generous and share their happyness throughout their house and
… read more their community. Indeed, I live my experience with 4-5 others workawayers and the mood was awesome. We share vegetarian food, salsa and traditional Irish danse lesson, job and house keeping together. About work, I made interesting and creative tasks : stone path and stone stair in the garden, painting, build brick wall, etc... Maximun 5 hours per day and we had always enought time to hike and visite around the house and the region during the week end. Jen and his father Jerry are attentive and drive us around for purchase and descover landscape around. In 3 weeks, I hiked 2 mountains : Cnoc an Prise and Carauntoohil ; we visited together Dingle peninsula and a lot of pubs in Killarney ;0
I miss you everyone.

Pat brings all the laughs to the house. He's a very kind man and loves to connect with people. He's very curious and eager to learn.

Jen and Fin are fantastic hosts. The place feels incredibly warm and familiar. It makes you want to stay forever. Their father, Jerry, is also really friendly and gave us a lot of his time to drive us around.
The work is exactly what I would expect during such a workaway.
We did up the main living house by repainting walls and furniture,
… read more replacing and repairing stuff and generally helping with maintenance.
We helped them clear the garden of fallen trees and branches, pruned some vegitation and built wooden structures and iconic stone walls.
The workaway location is also quite crazy. It's a 30min drive to the closest city and the scenery on the road is just incredible. It feels like we're staying in a fairytale valley populated by sheep and a few humans.
