    Description

Hey! I am Krzysztof and since the beginning of the year 2020 I have started working on my own homestead, which in the future I would love to become home for other people as well or possibly grow into something even bigger than just a homestead. Now, with your creativity you can have influence on which path this project will follow, and you can add your own colors and spices to how it looks!

The place is located in a picturesque valley in the Subcarpathia region of south-eastern Poland, close to the towns of Dynów and Brzozów, in Hłudno village. It is surrounded by Nature, yet easily accessible by public transportation and car, with friendly countryside and small-town atmosphere nearby. There are several creeks and streams running throughout the valley (with a cute little waterfall just a short walk away, which is the source of refreshing drinking water), wild, diverse forests and meadows full of flowers. This is a fantastic place to enjoy Nature during any part of the year, dwell into it to cleanse your body and mind, and also to share and gain new skills and experiences.

The homestead is not a typical one. The structures are aimed to fit into a passive solar design and be made mostly of natural or repurposed and recycled materials, to reduce their impact on the environment. I also look into the use of modern materials and technologies, as they in fact may bring us closer to being neutral to the Planet. A great part of my life are geodesic domes - one of them being the main sleeping area and another just being raised as a greenhouse. On the other hand, I like to experiment with different designs, especially those utilizing cool geometry or organic shapes.

The homestead is situated on a rich clay soil, which is the biggest natural treasure here. Anything can be built with that! The area is also rich in other materials, such as wood, sand, rocks, thatch and straw, which can be all obtained locally and ethically. It's a paradise for the natural builders!

People of all walks of life are welcome, whether they want to come for regeneration, education, skills exchange or joining the project for good. Everybody can bring something into the homestead with their energy, and I like this energy to be as diverse as possible.

In return for your input, I will gladly share my skills and experience regarding wood working, dome design and construction, off-grid living, my view on permaculture, ecology and so on. I can talk for hours about bees, trees and fungi, and I have a broad knowledge of all aspects of biology. I have a degree in a biological discipline and a scientific experience from the past.

I will gladly share my culinary skills with you, which also come from my knowledge about human physiology and biochemistry, as well as from several years of nomadic travel around the world. I like experimenting with the spices and wild plants.

On top of all of this, the Nature will definitely suffice your needs for your stay here. This is a perfect place to cleanse your mind while on a walk among the hills, or to deep cleanse your body with the magical clay that is present in huge quantities in the waterfall and in the pools of the streams. Yup, I live in a spa, and some spa-goers would pay a high price for what is available here for free to everyone!

The following is a largely incomplete list of the ongoing projects:

    SLEEPING DOME
This is a tiny house which is my winter home and a shared sleeping space for others for the rest of the year. It is already mostly insulated, although some construction work is still to be done. This project includes work mostly with clay and straw, but there are also some smaller projects involving other materials.

    GREENHOUSE DOME
The second project is a little dome greenhouse. It's supposed to be a high tech-low tech constructions for starting seedlings and keeping plants that require special treatment. It includes a lot of solar punk, off-grid and permaculture technologies.

    SUMMER KITCHEN
There is an area which I want to turn into a special space for making jams, pickles and so on during the summer, with a big stove, tables, sink and storage space. This will certainly be a cool spot for spending the hottest months!

    FOOD CELLAR
I want to set up a storage space for the food for the hottest and coldest months. This may be an interesting experiment, as I want to create a mix of technologies from around the world and make it using only local, natural resources.

    BREAD OVEN
The rich clay soil is perfect for making the oven and baking some bread and pizza!

    SOLAR DRYER
How many things can you dry for later use? The bigger the dryer, the more things you can have! The area is rich in mushrooms, wild fruits, herbs and so on. It would be cool to make the most of it!

    FOREST GARDEN
The food forest that I create for the last couple of years is growing bigger each year. There is a lot of room for experimenting and trying out new and unordinary techniques!

    SLEEPING SPACES
I have several old-school tents, lots of mattresses, blankets and pillows and I want to set up some additional sleeping areas for the guests around the garden. It's up to us to make them as beautiful and comfy as we can imagine! If you would like to sleep in such space or create one, please let me know!

    SMOOTH FLOW OF ENERGY
The comfortable life on the homestead largely depends on the daily chores that need to be done on regular basis, such as collecting firewood, bringing water from the waterfall, maintaining the paths, composting and so on. There is also a huge room for your own ideas and input, including making the place more beautiful by creating decorations and any other improvements. Feel free to tell me about your ideas!

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

Depending on the season, the sleeping arrangements may vary. There are several options available, including the dome (which is insulated and heated during colder months), a big mattress next to the fireplace or an old school tent which provides more privacy. You are also free to set up your own sleeping area, using your own or some of the stuff available around the homestead.

The food is provided. We usually cook vegan or vegetarian meals and eat together, but I am not very strict about that. Quite often we use freegan food, the fruits of the forest or what we can obtain from the neighbours. You may discuss your eating arrangements with me before coming.

The place is alcohol and nicotine free.

There is no strict plan of the day. The most important rule is what I call "The Rule of the Eleventh Hour": before 11 AM, everyone has the time for themselves and may not be required by others to do anything. Sometimes I start working earlier, but taking part in these activities are voluntary. The morning is the best time to take care of your body and mind, do some exercises, meditation, go to the waterfall or for a walk, drink coffee. I tend to eat late breakfasts (around 11AM). Before that time, your activity is up to you. After the breakfast, I like to spend some time working. There is some light lunch eaten around 2-3 PM (feel free to signalize to others that you are getting hungry; you may also volunteer to prepare food for others). Before it gets dark, I like to go for a walk and then sit by the fire. We cook dinner together, prepare some evening brew, play chess, play or listen to music.

I like people who are independent in their work and can take care of themselves. You can take care of a project or activity of your choice and then you may be free to do what you like.

We can make consensual decision on taking a day off; it doesn't necessarily have to be any of the standard weekend days. I like to follow lunar calendar and celebrate New Moon and Full Moon. The activities depend on the phase of the Moon. I like to take more time for myself before and around New Moon.

The area is beautiful and open for exploration. I have two bicycles available for you to use, there are plenty of trails good for hiking and there's a lot of opportunities for road trips. Just four kilometers away, there is a stunning valley of the biggest river in this part of the country (San) and it is fantastic for road trips in any direction. The higher mountains (Bieszczady, Beskid Niski) are within reach of a day trip, including some stunning lakes and national parks. Most of the times I choose to explore the local area by foot. How many beaver dams can you visit in a day?

And finally, the place is free from alcohol and tobacco and it is vital for us to sustain a drug-free energy so everyone can get the best from staying here. Please restrain from these substances during the stay on the homestead. Let's keep the energy of this place healthy for our minds!

My place, while being in the midst of wilderness, has the convenience of constant LTE coverage. If you do not have data packets for Poland, I can create wi-fi hotspot for you. The quality of internet connection varies between places and is influenced by weather and seasons (e.g. thick foliage). The power system is off-grid, based on solar panels, but it can easily support constant laptop use and charging of multiple devices. It may be limited during some winter periods.
