We had a great time and experience with Ylva, Ottar, Birk and Dominique. Lovely and very kind people who made us feel at home since the first moment.
We shared almost 3 weeks in March 2023 at the end of winter time. It was very snowy and cold but it was perfect for working inside the house where we did most of the tasks, drinking coffe and having
… read more a lot of interesting talks.
Sanding and painting some furnitures, putting tiles in the kitchen, painting some parts of the house, changing the silicone around the bath tub, working with Wood, moving some stuffs were some of the tasks we did. We were free to choose the moment of the day to do it. Looking after and spending time with Ottar and Birk were the most enjoyable and funny part, jumping in the trampoline, drawing and colouring and playing football made us feel as children again (Thanks for that! :))
About the meals routine we usually had breakfast and lunch on our own and dinner together around 5pm. We ate lovely homemade and traditional Norwegian and Eslovenian food made by Ylva and Dominique. Nice coffee, bread, butter and brown cheese available every day and moment.
And the place…Awww is located on an outstanding spot close to the sea in the middle of the Lofoten islands. We could see the northern lights just outside the house which was amazing! Very warm and comfy room inside the house.
To finish they were very kind lending us the car to explore the lofoten islands. There are also some interesting places around the area to go for a walk or do hiking but maybe for summer time.
We’d highly recomend this place and we’d be very happy to come back some day during summer. Thanks a lot for everything!

The work was nice, there is no big projects because it was already mid September when I came but there is some differents and various task to do, I was never bored and happy to be helpfull in the place !
The kids are happy to have someone to stay and play with them, the dog like to have a partner of walk and the cat like to come in my room in the morning ^^
If you like to be a part of a family don't hesitate to ask a request !
Again and again Ylva thank you for welcoming me, you are a great personn and I felt lucky to have the opportunity to be with all of you for this month.

I had such a wonderful time staying with Ylva, Dominik, and their two children. They welcomed me into their home and family with open arms. They gave me great advice on local sights, hikes, and experiences, and let me borrow a bicycle and car to do my own adventures. I had delicious homecooked food and a comfortable bed during my stay.

… read more painted their house and barn, mowed the lawn, helped out with the kids, and did some general cleaning. I also looked after their house and animals (dog, geese, rabbits) while they took a short family vacation.

Reinebringen, ryten, ramberg, all beautifull places, but the most memorable thing of the lofoten will be those kids going around the chimney on the toy car. Turbo time! I had the pleasure of meeting Ylva and staying in her beautiful home on the Lofoten Islands for just over a week. I wanted to spend some time in Lofoten to see the Northern Lights (saw a sweet display one night, and also experience an awesome storm at the end), and Ylva wanted some help before winter sets in, so the stars aligned and joined us

Comfy place, yummy food, drinkable coffee, great location, awesome scenery and great company. As said before, Ylva is very relaxed and doesn't keep to any (identifiable) schedule, and I often felt like I wasn't being worked as hard as I could have been. But hey, I'm not going to complain about having too much free time! :P
Another thing, I met two ex-workawayers of hers that have returned to the Island, a clear sign that she (and Lofoten itself) are doing something right.

I stayed with a friend at Ylva´s place for around 1.5 weeks. It is beautiful and calm around there, directly facing the ocean with mountains in the back. She is undertaking a huge project with renovating, reconstructing this old farm property and has a lot of ideas and visions of how to use it.

She welcomed us even though it was her holiday and thus it was a quite easygoing time with small tasks coming up like planting trees, weeding, carrying rocks, sorting out the barn. And, of course, having good food and coffee. A lot.
Being with her was not like "typical" worktrading. There wasn´t often a fixed workschedule or clear tasks. This is something I theoretically appreciate, but had difficulties with in practice as I just got to know the place and herself. We learned and discussed, that we both had different expectations of how work is to be done. Recognizing this was interesting and important.
